I’m Linda Jones. I’m a business center clerk at hotel Crown Plaza, Shenzhen. I serve all the guests with a friendly and patient attitude, and provide administrative support for their needs. Our 24-hour business center services include secretarial, administrative services, translating service and business support– from computers, printers and scanners to high-speed Internet access, photocopying and faxing facilities. You name it, and we will do it. Task C The business center is a “shop window” of a hotel. The business center staff’s efficiency and personality are of great importance to the realization of the hotel’s aim. They seem to “do it all”--- delivering mails, dealing with the telephone problem, sending a fax, booking tickets and so on. Many business centers now have the EDI services, such as E-mail, etc. Some hotels even have computers on loan to let the business guests use the computer or have their own portables connected to the net. In order to fulfill these tasks, business center staff must have a neat and smart appearance, good manners, adaptability, knowledge of languages and a head for figures. The most importance of all the qualities is a real liking for people and a warm desire to help them with their business tasks. Activity 3 Task A T: Good morning, sir. Can I help you? P: Good morning. Would you please reserve a plane ticket for me to Xi’an? T: When do you intend to go, Sir? P: Next Monday. T: Okay. Let me check it for you, Sir. Monday will be September 15th. There are two flights available on that day: one is at 8:30a.m., the other is at 10:40p.m. P: Fine, I would like to fly out at 8:30a.m., and reserve a first class seat. T: Ok, let me confirm this with you. 8:30 in the morning, first class, right? How many tickets do you need? P: Just one. T: Ok, Sir. May I have your full name, please? P: Peter Marshal. T: Could you please spell that for me? P: P-E-T-E-R, Peter and M-A-R-S-H-A-L, Marshal. T: Let me repeat. Mr. Marshal. P-E-T-E-R M-A-R-S-H-A-L, is that correct? P: Correct. T: How would you like to pay for your ticket, Mr. Marshal? In cash or by credit card? P: I prefer to pay by credit card. By the way, do you take any surcharge for your service? T: Yes, Sir.
