His father had been a prosperous clothing manufacturer who was, however, ruined by the crash of the 1929.Miller finished high school

2、during the Depression when his family suddenly became poor. He went to work in a warehouse where he saw the injustices of the capitalist system and the hardships of workers. Then he saved enough money to study journalism at the University of Michigan.At the university he began writing plays. He won

3、a Hopwood Award in Drama for his first play entitled “Honors at Dawn.” He graduated from the university in 1938. Then he wrote a dozen plays before his first Broadway production in 1944-The Man Who Had All the Luck. With the success of All My Sons in 1947, he devoted himself entirely to drama.Short

But the marriage is not ideal, finally, in 5 years ended in failure. They divorced in 1960.And Miller married again in 1962. At the same year, Monro

Deciding that he is worth more dead than alive, Willy kills himself in his car , hoping that the insurance money will support his family and his

15、son Biff could get a new start in his life. Critics have disagreed whether his suicide is an act of cowardice or a last sacrifice on the altar of the American Dream. Death of a SalesmanThe script indicates that the rules of social life in America is Losers havent rights to survive. Willie didnt succ

16、eed, so he had to go to his doom. Willie had been sure that he was supposed to succeed, but he didnt know the society and himself well. He was hungry for life happiness which had already been deprived by the civilized society. The only thing he could do was watching the end of all his hopes. He pass

17、ed on his unrealized dreams to his next generation, but this put them into much trouble in spirit. For his unrealized dreams could not point the way to success, but mislead them or have bad effects on them. Therefore, his sons turned into useless playboys, and the next generation was incorrigible.
