Therefore, it is necessary for business people to learn about the essentials of travelling, either by plane or by train. If you travel by plane, you have to book an airline ticket. When booking an airline ticket, you should make certain that the time, date, destination, and the spelling of your name are correct. At the airport, you should make certain that you have a luggage tag on each piece of luggage and that you receive a receipt for each piece of luggage you check in. You should have labels inside and outside of your bags with your name, destination and home address. If your luggage is over the allowed weight, you may have to pay extra money.Security checks are common at airports. These usually consist of walking through a metal detector, and having your hand luggage examined. You will have to show your tickets and boarding pass, and you will have to remove metal objects from your pockets. Sharp objects like nail scissors must be put in your check-in luggage: they are not allowed on any airlines in hand luggage or pockets. However, if you choose to travel by train, the formalities involved are much simpler. In some developed nations like the U.S., railroads operate two types of passenger trains: commuter trains and intercity trains. Commuter trains carry passengers between large cities and the surrounding suburbs. Most of these trains are equipped with coaches only. Coaches provide seats for passengers but do not ordinarily offer any extra services, such as meals or refreshments. Intercity trains in most countries are similar in that they generally make longer runs than commuter trains do. The longest intercity runs cover great distances and take several days to complete. As a result, many intercity passenger trains have special cars, such as dining cars and sleeping cars, in addition to coaches.Language Expansion(语言扩充)Making enquiries about flights, luggage and check-in timesl Are the flights to London non-stop?l Can I break my journey in Chicago?l Can I stop in New York?l Does that flight go every afternoon?l The allowance per passenger is 25kg.l How much should I pay for the overweight luggage/excess weight?l What time am I supposed to check in?l You’ll have to get to the airport one hour before the departure time.Booking airline ticketsl May I have a ticket to Chicago for February 12?l Can I book a flight to Shanghai for May 9, please?l How do you want to fly, economy or first class?l I’d like to fly/go economy.Checking in at the airportl Here’s your boarding card/pass, ticket and passport.l How many pieces of luggage would you like to check in?l Can I hand-carry this bag?Going through customsl People who haven’t got anything to declare, please go through the Green Lane.l Your personal belongings are duty-free.l Open your suitcase, please.l I’m not sure whether my camera needs to be declared or not.l How much duty should I pay on these cigarettes?Making a reservation in a hotell I’d like to book a room for two nights.l May I have a double room with the park view?l Do you offer a wake-up call service for guests?l When do you serve meals?l I wonder what’s the rate for a twin room, please.l What’s the rate for the luxury suite from January 1st to 3rd?l I’d like a moderately priced room.l Price is no problem.
