1、Look at it intrepidly -after reading The Portrait of Dorian GrayDuring the short journey of our life, we have to make plenty of decisions inevitably. However, when it comes to youth and soul, are we able to pick the right one at all times? Is it worth nailing ones soul to the devils altar in exchang
2、e for an exquisite face which will never wither? The temptation is too true to refuse and the cost is too high to deny. When we are still mired in the dilemma, Oscar Wilder has already showed his position by recounting a fragile story of Dorian Gray.Dorian Gray was a young man who deserved praising
3、with what Shakespeare wrote about Hamlet: “the unmatched form and feature of youth”. Indeed he was so beautiful that his friend Basil couldnt help making a portrait of him. Obsessed with the portrait and cajoled by Lord Henry, Dorian traded with devil his pure soul for eternal youth and beauty witho
4、ut a second thought, ignoring Basils timely warning and what may be the consequences of losing ones soul. As he wished, he remained what he was and his portrait would suffer from aging and corruption. Years later, constantly haunted by the past, Dorian finally realized what he lost love and the mean
5、ing of life. Pricked by his deep conscience, Dorian stabbed the picture with the same knife he used to kill Basil, freeing himself from the monstrous life in the end.Just like Lord Henry said, “There is nothing as important as youth and beauty.” They are the two things that most people would die for
6、. When facing the choice of youth and soul, we seem no different from Dorian. Some go to extremes as Dorian did. And it becomes no longer news that they would eat human embryo alive so as to keep young. But most of us get stuck in the middle, so we choose what appears to be the safer way. Regularly
7、women go to beauty parlors, desperately trying every newly introduced Frankenstein technology to get baby skin and beautified face while men go to sports centers, working out like nonstopable machines to wipe out every single trace of time from their bodies. Then when we walk outside, women are masq
8、uerading with layers and layers of make-ups, men with explosive muscular physique. What is bugging our generation is the fear of aging, exactly why Dorian was intoxicated by the forever young portrait and why we are living in a panic of losing youth.His choices make me think of what the author once
9、sighed with emotion:“Dorian Gray is who I am, Basil is who I wish I am, and Henry is who the others think I am .”This sounds eloquent yet when I emptied my mind and thought it over, it is a kind of philosophy.Just like Henry said, “There is nothing as important as youth.” Youth is the most splendid
10、period of ones lifetime, I am sure thats why Dorian was intoxicated by the portrait and people always fear to wave farewell to their youth. How many people were living in a panic of losing when they were young, and complained “youth is short!” when they grew up? I believe there must be somewhere tot
11、ally private in my heart where the loft exists indeed and so do the others. Behind the dusty door, there lies a portrait of myself. Its another me but more real. It should be constant but it truly changes. It lives up to all my expectations I cant reach and I wish myself will never be left a print o
12、n by time. Actually, some things are precious for not lasting long such as our youth and life. Please see youth as a flower which comes out in summer, what you can do is picking for yourself a rose and enjoying its rich scent and amazing color entirely today, though it will sear tomorrow. So, why no
13、t free our creative thoughts and violent eagerness inside before the moments gone, before our courage and passion are gone? Ignore the scandals and listen to your will, let your young heart command your steps. And be fearless of making mistakes, because scars will have changed into our unmatched tre
14、asure over time. At least, when we grow old, touching the same moonlight as years before , we will have some intoxicated memories to recall and keep. Therefore, if youth becomes endless and everything can be reiterated, it will lose the original value at the same time. Whats more, soon we will find
15、that we dont have to take responsibilities for what we have done. It seems there is plenty time awaiting us to squander, but when we care less and less about others, our souls are rotten little by little. And if one day we find we dont even have a soul, we may doubt as Dorianwhats the meaning of lif
16、e on earth? We own nothing but an endless torment and an empty heart. Only with a soul can we get rid of the slough of deceptions and illusions and clear our minds. Although the world just sees we gleam, although we are only the ashes of time, we will make a ripple on the water in our way. We shouldnt have a terror of the natural law.
