2、To sensitize students to various social functions of the English language through: Introducing relevant business/commercial terms in todays business settings Knowing more about business writing Practicing speaking & listening skills in business contextMain Contents This is a two-semester course with

3、 14 sessions, 180 minutes in each session. It is designed to help students think strategically about social functions of the English language in business settings. Some basic concepts of business communication will be introduced. The main contents will cover business writing basics (including style,

4、 tone, and readability), formats of business writings, business telephoning, company activity description, inquiry and goodwill communications. Teaching ApproachThe class sessions will mainly employ a lecture-discussion format combined with other in-class activities to practice and sharpen students

5、English skills. This requires that the students should have a high degree of involvement in classroom activities. The quality of their contributions to teamwork & class discussion as well as the quality of the assignments should be evaluated as important criteria for grading.教材与参考资料Textbook: Interna
