(Arouse students’ interests.) Step 2 Pre-Reading Show Ss another video about Christopher Reeve(sitting on his wheelchair) and ask some questions: a)What can you see in the video? b)Which one do you prefer? The superman or the disabled man? c)Do you want to know what happened to him? Step 3 While-Reading 1)Fast Reading Ask Ss to read the passage quickly and try to finish Exercise 3. 2)Working out meanings Before reading for the second time, ask Ss to guess the meaning of some new words using Reading Strategies(presented on PPT). Ask Ss to match the new words with meanings. 3)Detailed-Reading Ask Ss to read the passage again and find out useful information to complete the table on the screen. Step 4 Post-Reading 1)Retelling Ask Ss to retell the passage according to the table. 2)Discussion Ask Ss to discuss the following in pairs: Do you think that Christopher Reeve is a hero? What can you learn from Christopher Reeve? Try to use some adjectives to describe him. 3)Summary Teacher will list some adjectives and give a summary of this class.
