Module 1 Unit 2 Lesson 4 Superhero Teaching Objectives By the end of this class, Ss will be able to: a)Master some new words and phrases: disaster, on one’s own, promote, injury, confident, get involved, divorce, etc. b)Learn how to work out meanings of new words c)Know about the qualities of a superhero Important points: a)Words and phrases in the passage b)The general idea of each paragraph Difficult points: a)How to enable them to master vocabularies and phrasal verbs. b)How to let students voice their own opinions. Teaching methods Task-based Learning & Group work Teaching aids Multi-media computer, PPT, a blackboard Teaching Procedures Step 1 Lead-in Show Ss a video about superman and ask them what they can see in the film. (Arouse students’ interests.) Step 2 Pre-Reading Show Ss another video about Christopher Reeve(sitting on his wheelchair) and ask some questions: a)What can you see in the video? b)Which one do you prefer? The superman or the disabled man? c)Do you want to know what happened to him? Step 3 While-Reading 1)Fast Reading Ask Ss to read the passage quickly and try to finish Exercise 3. 2)Working out meanings Before reading for the second time, ask Ss to guess the meaning of some new words using Reading Strategies(presented on PPT). Ask Ss to match the new words with meanings. 3)Detailed-Reading Ask Ss to read the passage again and find out useful information to complete the table on the screen. Step 4 Post-Reading 1)Retelling Ask Ss to retell the passage according to the table. 2)Discussion Ask Ss to discuss the following in pairs: Do you think that Christopher Reeve is a hero? What can you learn from Christopher Reeve? Try to use some adjectives to describe him. 3)Summary Teacher will list some adjectives and give a summary of this class. Step 5 Assignment a)Finish exercise 6 and 7 in the book. b)Write a short passage about a superhero in your mind. 。
