10、ecalibrationdata.Accuracyisthemaximumamountofdifferencebetweenameasuredvariableandits truevalue.Itisusuallyexpressedasapercentageoffull-scaleoutput.Inthestrictest sense,accuracyisneverknownbecausethetruevalueisneverreallyknown.Precisionisthedifferencebetweenameasuredvariableandthebestestimate(asob-
11、tainedfromthemeasuredvariable)ofthetruevalueofthemeasuredvariable.Itisa measureofrepeatability.Precisemeasurementshavesmalldispersionbutmayhave pooraccuracyiftheyarenotclosetothetruevalue.Figure1ashowsthedifferences betweenaccuracyandprecision. Linearitydescribesthemaximumdeviationoftheoutputofanins
12、trumentfromabest-fittingstraightlinethroughthecalibrationdata.Mostinstrumentsaredesignedsothat theoutputisalinearfunctionoftheinput.Linearityisbasedonthetypeofstraightlinefittedtothecalibrationdata.Forexample,least-squareslinearityisreferencedto thatstraightlineforwhichthesumofthesquaresoftheresidua
13、lsisminimized.The6 6InstrumentStaticstermresidualreferstothedeviationsofoutputreadingsfromtheircorrespondingvaluesonthestraightlinefittedthroughthedata. Hysteresisisthemaximumdifferenceinoutput,atanymeasuredvaluewithinthespec-ifiedrange,whenthevalueisapproachedfirstwithincreasingandthenwithdecreas-
14、ingmeasurand.Hysteresisistypicallycausedbyalagintheactionofthesensingelementofthetransducer.Loadingtheinstrumentthroughacycleoffirstincreasing values,thendecreasingvalues,ofthemeasurandprovidesahysteresisloop,asshown inFig.1b.Hysteresisisusuallyexpressedinpercentoffull-scaleoutput. Errorbandistheban
15、dofmaximumdeviationofoutputvaluesfromaspecifiedrefer- encelineorcurve.Astaticerrorband(seeFig.1c)isobtainedbystaticcalibration. Itisdeterminedonthebasisofmaximumdeviationsobservedoveratleasttwo consecutivecalibrationcyclessoastoincluderepeatability.Errorbandaccountsfor deviationsthatmaybeduetononlin
