1、开题报告The Functional Equivalence in Movie Subtitle Translation from English to Chinese 一、选题的背景和意义Since the first film “Exiting the factory” emerged in France which was produced by Louis Brothers in 1895, a new gadget called “Western shadow show” was introduced to China by a Shanghai businessman the ne
2、xt year. Its first show was in the businessmans villa Xu Garden, naming “youyicun”. So it was regarded as the beginning of Chinese film. At the same time, the film got itself well-known not only in China but also in many other western countries, such as in the USA. Its hard for everyone to ignore th
3、e fact that the importance and overwhelming influence of the Hollywoods growth. At first, Hollywood was related to the name of a place, located in Los Angeles, California of the USA. Later, a real estate businessman bought a farm at the suburban of Los Angeles. As his wife was fond of the name “Holl
4、ywood”, she named their farm as Hollywood. About twenty years having passed, some film directors found this farm quite appropriate for their films shooting because of the unparalleled scene of natural beauty, plenty of natural light and a comfortable climate. Gradually, this small place became more
5、and more famous and moreover some films workers started establishing their films companies there, including some well-known ones nowadays, as instant, Universal, Paramount, 20th Century Fox and so on. During the decade after World War I, the film industry of the USA reached its prosperous times thro
6、ughout the whole world with an important figurenearly 60% to 90% Hollywood films of the USA had the priority to be run in other countries. China was not an exception as well. The Hollywood films of the USA took a 75% account of Chinese film market during the 20s to 30s of the twentith century. But w
7、ith the establishment of the New Peoples Republic of China, the films of the USA had been withdrawn from the Chinese market. About 30 years later, for the implementing of the reform and opening-up, the Chinese films market began to involve the Hollywood films of the USA once again. As for these two
8、periods of the introduction of the Hollywood films, the measure of dubbing was the most popular one which at first was just related to the kind of silent film with the Chinese subtitles used by the lantern slide and then it evolved into the kind of film explained by “Miss Interpreter” and at last it
9、 formed into the real dubbed foreign film. In 1994, for the purpose of stimulating the depressing film market, State Administration of Radio Film and Television made a decision to introduce ten Hollywood blockbusters. Since then, the fame of the Hollywood film industry quite widespread. At the 2010
10、WTO talks, there are some new items are added: in the coming 3 years, China will increase the amount of the introduction of foreign films from 10 films per year to 50 films per year gradually; the overseas computers will be permitted to invest China films market; Chinese government will be driven to
11、 decline the customs duties of introducing overseas films.Moreover, after entering into the 21st century, the exchange and communication of the international media culture is getting more and more universal and frequent with the rapid developing globalization and more multinational cultural communic
12、ation. The medium is destined to an indispensable part of human beings civilization. The growth of the scientific inventions cannot be reckoned with as it is regarded as the basic drive force to push the film forward and speed up its growth. As a result, the young generations whose living environmen
13、t is full of high-tech and diverse cultures are turning to the English films with subtitles for an important reason that they may be able to get a good knowledge of both the English as a language and the culture of the English-spoken countries while they are entertaining. Therefore, its quite necess
14、ary to do some research about the subtitles of films. 二、研究目标与主要内容（含论文提纲）Along with entering into a new century, the exchange and communication of the international media culture is becoming more and more frequent with the growing globalization and more multinational cultural communication. The mediu
15、m is destined to become an important carrier of peoples civilization. Film takes a quite large scale part of the medium. Meanwhile, with our nations entrance of the WTO, more and more western films are flooding into our country. Facing the challenges of the cultural diversity, film translation takin
