5、process of writing and makes me draw much pleasure form it at last摘要 汉语四字成语是几千年华夏文化的精髓之一。汉语四字成语的结构稳定而且有着深刻的含义，它用生动的形象明确地表达着深刻的含义。汉语四字成语承载着中华五千年的文化特色和文化信息。而翻译并非仅仅是把两种语言进行简单的转换，而是一种文化的交流和传递。因此，在汉语四字成语英译的时候，我们自己必须首先要充分理解汉语四字成语的内在含义，灵活运用不同的翻译方法，将英汉语言中习语与汉语四字成语进行比较，使汉语四字成语所包含的文化特色和信息最大限度地传递给外国读者，这就要求译者只有
6、尽最大努力把汉语四字成语翻译成外国读者更能够接受的形式才能帮助外国读者消除或减少语言及文化障碍。汉语四字成语英译要求译者们必须掌握和熟悉两种语言以及其文化背景。他们必须从风俗和文化背景的角度，通过对汉语和英语语言学和文化差异的理解，尽量去把握汉语四字成语的内在含义，从而使其观点与原文的所表达的意思相一致。本文在简单介绍汉语四字成语的定义，起源以及特征的基础上讨论了其英译的一系列方法。关键词：汉语四字成语；英语习语；翻译；内在含义；方法Abstract Four-character Chinese idioms are part of the essence of Chinese culture
7、 with a history of thousands of years. They have fixed patterns and abundant connotations. Their vivid images explicitly convey deep meanings. Four-character Chinese idioms bear five thousand years of Chinese cultural characteristic and the cultural messages. Translation is not only one kind of simp
8、le correspondence switching process between two languages, but is one kind of cultural exchange and transmission. Therefore, translating four-character Chinese idioms into English is a concrete operating process. First, the translators must understand the intrinsic meaning of the Chinese idioms full
9、y; second, they should use several different translation methods and contrasts the similarities and differences between the English idioms and four-character Chinese idioms; third, they should carry on the suitable structure adjustment and translate four-character Chinese idioms which carry cultural
10、 characteristic and cultural information in for the foreign readers. Helping the foreign readers eliminate and reduce language and cultural barrier requests the translator to work diligently to translate the form in the way that the foreign readers are easy to accept. To understand and translate fou
11、r-character Chinese idioms into English, it is very important for the translators to master and acquaint themselves with the original language and the target language and their cultures well. They should set out from the aspects of customs and cultural backgrounds and try to catch the connotation of
12、 the original idioms by understanding linguistic and cultural differences between English and Chinese so as to make his version alike the original text in spirit. In this thesis, the English translation of the four-character Chinese idioms will be discussed on the foundation of simply introducing th
13、e definitions, origins, features of four-character Chinese idioms, and a series of methods of translation will be put forward.
