Local employees bring qualifi

The

3、 more numerous a companys subsidiaries in China, however, the more local financial flows and appropriate management gain in importance. But who would best control operations there, a local manager or an expatriate from the companys headquarters in Germany? “The expat has the advantage of knowing the

4、 group, its policies and the key contact persons within the company in order to solve a problem,” says Stephan Heimberg, group finance manager of Clariant International Ltd. “Local managers have the advantage of knowing local laws and customs much more thoroughly,” he adds. In his view, a mix of loc

5、al and expatriate managers would be ideal. “Just like we do it in our operations in greater China,” Heimberg states. Clariant, the Swiss specialty chemicals company, employs nearly 2,000 workers in greater China (mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) and is present in 13 cities with a total o

8、ike Kmmerle, head of subsidiary finance at BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgerte GmbH. For this reason, it comes as little surprise

10、that Bosch und Siemens Hausgerte has decided to send no expatriates to its finance team in China. “Instead, we relied on short, three-month deployments of various finance professionals to China in order to train local employees,” says Kmmerle. Nonetheless, companies should not underestimate the asso

11、ciated costs that may arise from establishing a treasury or financial management team in China, as overcoming cultural and language barriers may take longer than anticipated.另外,公司聘请一个外籍人士费用是非常高的,因为一般情况下公司都会承担额外的费用,例如外派到中国人员的住房、搬迁或者回国的航班等费用。也就是因为这个原因,博世和西门子家用电器决定不向中国的财务团队派遣外籍人员。Kmmerle说:“相反,我们会安排各种金融

13、lture and practices allows them to forge better and more trusting relationships with banks and regulatory agencies. “They understand the rules of the various Chinese authorities much better and can also interpret them,” says Kmmerle. “This is much more challenging for us as Europeans because we dont

14、 have our roots in the county and may not have the necessary language skills,” he adds. Michal Hannig, CEO of Voith Finance GmbH confirms this: “In my experience, local managers are much better equipped to build a lasting relationship with Chinese financial institutions.” According to him, technical
