10、薄片具有成本低、填充性好并能减少烟气中焦油含量等优点。烟草薄片的制造始于20世纪50年代。制造方法主要有造纸法、稠浆法和辊压法3种。造纸法 烟草原料先用水萃取，不溶性物质或添加天然纤维制成浆后进入造纸机，初步形成纸网，水溶性萃取物经浓缩后和添加剂一并加入纸网中，干燥后即为成品。加工制造时，可从水溶性物质中提取或除去某些烟草成分，均质烟叶调制多用此法。该法所生产的薄片，物理强度高,湿强度好,不易破碎，单位体积重量轻，燃烧速度快，生成焦油量低。由于工艺复杂,能耗较多,设备投资大，适于较大规模生产。稠浆法 烟草原料经粉碎均匀分散于水中，加入胶粘剂和其他添加剂，匀浆铺在旋转、运转的金属带上干燥，剥离后或卷或切，进行包装。也有的稠浆法是利用烟草本身所含果胶作胶粘剂，可在调浆阶段加入氨水和磷酸氢二铵使果胶酸钙溶解，加热驱氨使其再成为不溶性的果胶酸钙而起粘结作用。稠浆法薄片的强度、单位体积的重量、填充性和生成焦油量以及生产成本介于造纸法和辊压法之间。辊压法 烟草原料粉碎后与天然纤维混合，加入胶粘剂、其他添加剂的水溶液,捏和均匀,经几道辊压，干燥后即为成品。用辊压法制得的薄片的强度较差，单位体积重量大，填充性能低，生成焦油含量高于上述两种方法。但该法设备较简单，能源消耗少，成本较低，适于中小规模生产。中国的烟草薄片制造均采用此法。
