3、on and make the fact file.IV. Teaching proceduresStep 1 Introduction 1. T asks students to think about what is a fact and what is a file. If they are not sure, T leads students to look up the word in the dictionary. T: Do you know what a fact is? A fact refers to a particular situation that exists.

4、What is a file? A file is a set of papers, records, etc. that contain information about a particular person or subject. And what is a fact file? A fact file is the actual information like a biography about a particular person or subject. 2. T asks students to think about what is a fact file about a

5、person like and lists some scientists they know about.T: Then what is a fact file about a person like? Today, our topic is a fact file about a scientist. What is a fact file about a scientist like? By the way, what scientists do you know about? Here are several scientists from abroad and home for yo

6、ur reference.【设计意图:学生通过查字典,学会探索知识,并建构思维导图,理解什么是fact,什么是file,什么是fact file,什么是关于人的fact file, 什么是关于科学家的fact file等等,进而拓宽思维,激发学生兴趣,为制作fact file打下基础。】Step 2 Reading1. T asks Ss to read Part C in the textbook to have a basic understanding of a fact file about a scientist.T: While reading, pay attention to

7、the content and layout of this fact file about Charles Darwin. Try to conclude the characteristics of writing a fact file about a person.T: Now I would like to ask you several questions, you can find the answers from the fact file in your textbook. Who is the scientist? Could you find the basic intr

8、oduction of the scientist? What contributions did he make to the whole world? Can you tell the interesting fact about the scientist?2. Summarize the main points of a fact file. T instructs Ss to read Part B in the textbook.T: In your opinion, what should you consider when you make a fact file about

9、a scientist? Part B of the textbook gives us some ideas: Personal information (name, date of birth/death, nationality, childhood, education, etc.) Achievements (scientific research, published works, etc.) Influence Interesting facts T: You can also put some illustrations and pictures on the page. In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a fact file about a person? T: They are supposed to be beautifully designed, well-organized, concise and vivid, including i

11、llustrations like portraits. Step 3 Preparing1. T Divides the students into groups of 4 and each group selects the scientist they are going to research.T: Since you have learned the definition and features of how to write a fact file about a scientist, the first thing is to choose one scientist who

12、has changed the world whether at home or abroad. Then, discuss in your group. In addition, each group member can try to collect the information from one aspect (including personal information, achievements, influence and interesting facts). 2. Search for relevant information.T gives some tips on fin

13、ding information for a fact file about a scientist.T: But where can we find the information related to scientists? Here are some tips for you. Information can be found on the Internet, in libraries, in a biography or an autobiography, or in scientific journals. Are there any other resources to add?

14、T: When searching for proper information, we should pay attention to the accuracy of the information we find, especially on the Internet. Also, we should underline the influence of the scientists to show their devotion to science. Generally speaking, information from official sources can be trusted.
