7、 of their captivity.but one hundred years later, the negro still is not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of

8、 a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languished in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. and so weve xxe here today to dramatize a shameful condition.in a sense weve xxe to our nations capital to cash a check. when th

9、e architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienab

10、le rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check, a check which has xxe back mark

There I want to start my speech with two short stories.The first story happened when I was in primary school, I wrote in my xxposition that my dream was to be a teacher when I gr

12、ew up. Meanwhile, what my classmates wrote about their dreams was that he or she wanted to be a doctor, a scientist or an astronaut.The second story happened at my first year in university. At the careers planning class, when the teacher asked about our dreams, one of my classmates stood up and said

13、, “I want to be a farmer, because I grow up in a farmers family and I love to be engaged in agriculture.” When he sat down, everyone clapped.These two stories happened during my growth process, from which I got my understanding of dreams. When I was a child I believed that a dream must be a big drea

14、m, but when I grow up I find this big dream is so far away from me, I know little about it, and I have done nothing to achieve it, so its not my dream. My classmates answer let me know a real dream is not just about being a great man, or doing a great job, its about what you really want to be, and a

15、re willing to try every effort to pursue it.Because what makes a dream valuable is not just about the result, its also about the process, the process when you are trying, when you are struggling, when you failed and restarted again and again, because of the process, dreams can be meaningful and bexxe your wealth.Thank you.
