Lead-in Introductory remarks: Dreaming of overnight fame is common among Chinese youngsters. The pursuit of superficial success and vanity has become

4、a big social problem. In this unit, well learn some very famous peoples stories. Through their experience, try to think the deeper meaning of fame. ACTIVITY 1 1 . Teaching Notes: 1) persecution: n. persecuting or being persecuted e.g. the persecution of writers who criticize the government 2) minist

5、ry: n. the work done by a priest or other religious person e.g. the ministry of Jesus 2. Teaching Tips: 1) let the students be familiar with the new words in the column. 2) Guide the students to listen to the dialogue and take notes to finish the exercise. ACTIVITY 2 1 Teaching Notes: 1) inspire: v.

6、 to encourage someone by making them feel confident and eager to achieve something great. e.g. We need a new captain-someone who can inspire the team. 2) collaboration: n. the act of working together with another person or group to achieve something, especially in science or art. e.g. The company is

7、 building the centre in collaboration with the Institute of Offshore Engineering. 3) mingle: v. to mix with different groups of people at a social occasion and talk to people that you do not already know. e.g. The cast and crew mingled as everyone started to relax. 2 Teaching Tips: 1)Let students be

8、 familiar with the new words in the column by reading aloud in pairs. 2)Let students know that the video is hard to fully understand and the aim of this task is only to get the three answers to the questions correct. 3)Let students watch the video from the beginning to the end once to see to what ex

9、tent that the students can take the notes of the questions. Then let them watch it again by dividing it into 3 parts to leave enough span of pause, making the students take down the answers of the 3 questions. If necessary, let students watch for a third time. ACTIVITY 3 1. Teaching Tips: 1) Teacher

10、s are expected to require students to work in pairs, and then ask one or two groups to present their own discussions. 2) Ask students to discuss some famous people they are familiar with.
