1、As far as I can see, beliefs are abstracted from a series of ideas. Then, all the beliefs consist of the value. In my presentation, I will talk about three periods of education and how they affect our ideas, beliefs, and values.The first period of education is the childhood education, which, I belie

2、ve, is the most significant period of education. When people are in their childhood, they are just like a piece of blank paper. They dont know what is right or what is wrong. They have no idea of the world. Like the way in which animals learn to survive, they regard what they see as what should do.

3、These are origins of their ideas. Obviously, people who are surround children have the hugest influence on them. We are all familiar with the famous story that Mencius mother moves her home three times to better her sons education. It reveals how the people around affect Mencius ideas and behaviors.

4、 For most of people, parental education plays the most important role in their childhood. Not only do parents tell them what they can do or not, but also parents have the most chances to appear in their view. As a matter of fact, in most of cases, children will imitate their parents, which is far mo

5、re impressive than education of words.I believe that many of you have seen this public service advertisement. Indeed, it moved many people. But Id like to point out that this story reveals how parents actions affect their children. Above all, words which do not correspond with actions are unconvinci

6、ng and can only puzzle their children. As a result, they may not have very clear ideas. And beliefs do not form easily. In this time, value is still vague. However, it does not mean that childhood education is not important. Because ideas and few beliefs that form at this time are like the backgroun

7、d of a picture. They are essential characters which decide peoples attitudes to the world and other people around them.The second period education is the primary education including education from elementary school to senior high school. People gain most of their practical knowledge and skills durin

8、g this time. Parents still have effects on them. Nevertheless, people have much more accesses to different kinds of information. The school plays a more and more important role in their education undoubtedly. Most of peoples ideas and beliefs form at this time. But they can be changed easily in the

9、future. Why? First of all, they have so few experiences that new things or ideas may have a great impact on them. Then, their minds are not mature enough to think about problems roundly. Last but not least, lies are everywhere. They exist in history books, in political books and news people get from

10、 the media. Unfortunately, teachers or parents do not teach them how to distinguish lies from facts. Especially in China, they even tell students that there is no doubt and just ask them to try hard to get good grades in exams. One day, when people find the truth, their beliefs got lost and their va

11、lues break down.It is the third period of education, the higher education, that provide ideas in a new level, revise peoples beliefs and rebuild the value. In the university, people have far more opportunities to express their ideas freely. So people can obtain information and ideas from different k

12、inds of people. Whats more, instead of receiving information passively, they exchange ideas from each other and argue about them. Naturally, in the communication and arguments, people learn to analyse whether it is right or wrong. They rediscover themselves and have the confidence to believe the con

13、clusion they make by thinking. It will be hard to make them believe some ideas without “facts” from different standpoints or logical thinking. In fact, mature beliefs do not form until now and so are their values. It seems that the higher education will assure that people will have proper values. Ho

14、wever, things are not that simple. I do not know what the situation is in foreign countries. At least in China, people are not free. Thought control and speech restriction are still strong, which make it hard to express ideas or get enough information freely. It is difficult to hear voices different

15、 from mainstream ideology. On the other hand, the society has more and more influences on universities. I do not mean that the university should be separated from the society. Whats worse, effects the society has on universities are in contradiction to the mainstream ideology. It cant be denied that

16、 some ideas and beliefs of mainstream ideology are appropriate. But in this situation, beliefs and values are revised again and again. People affirm with their lips but deny in their heart. It will only make things worse and worse.What is the solution to the problem? Maybe, it is a question that everyone here should think about.
