1、Unit 1 Breaking RecordsListening and speaking1 Listen to the radio interview with two Maryville High School students, Luke and Josh, about their schools bid to break a Guinness record. Number these Guinness records in the order you hear them mentioned. 1 Most people hula hooping at the same time. 2

2、Most bodies painted at the same time. 3 Most people juggling at the same time. 4 Most people brushing their teeth for one minute. 5 Most people in a group hug. 6 Most people eating breakfast. 2 Listen again and answer the questions. 1 What record is the school going to try to break? 2 What gave Luke

3、 and Josh the idea to break a Guinness record? 3 Why wont the record be as easy to break as Luke and Josh first thought? 4 How long has the school got to prepare for the record attempt? 5 Who is going to support the students in their attempt to break the record? 6 What are the four reasons why Luke

4、and Josh want their school to try to break the record?3 Read these expressions from the interview. Circle the ones in which the people express surprise. Now listen and number the circled expressions in the order you hear them. Then, in pairs, practise saying the expressions of surprise, paying speci

5、al attention to the intonation. Youre kidding ! Youre right. Tell us about it. Well, good luck. We were amazed at some of the things people do to get a Guinness record. Like what? Is that all? 6、ing expressions of surprise. Student A imagines or thinks of something amazing. Student B chooses an expression of surprise from the list in Exercise 3 or any others that express surprise. Tell mewhy did you decide to do this in the first place?L: Well, one day Josh and I were looking at a book of Guinness World Records and we started reading about records set by groups of people. We wer

11、e amazed at some of the things people do to get a Guinness record. H: Like what?J: Like the most people in a group hug, the most people juggling at the same time, the most people hula hooping at the same time. . . H: (interrupts)How amazing!J: Yeahwhat else was there, Luke?L: Ummlets seethe most peo

12、ple eating breakfastoh yeah, would you believe that about 10,240 students brushed their teeth for one minute in China? H: (laughs)Youre kidding! Youre right, people are very imaginative. Now, the record you want to break is also amazing. Tell us about it. L: Well, we want to break the record for the

13、 most bodies painted at the same time. At the moment the record is something like 116. H: Is that all? It doesnt sound like many. L: No, so thats why Josh and I thought we could easily break that if we got our schoolmates together. H: But you soon found out that it wasnt that easy, didnt you?J: Yeah

14、, because you cant paint just one little symbol, say, on every ones cheekEveryone has to be painted from head to toe and they have to have a design on them thats approved by the Guinness organization. H: So how are you going to organize this?J: Well, weve got another couple of months to get readyLot

15、s of parents and local businesses have said theyre going to donate time, supplies or moneywhichever they can. H: Thats wonderful. One last question, boysWhy is it important for you to attempt this record?L: Well, I just think itd be great fun and I think itd also be great for the school, you know, to create a bit of school spirit and bring people in the local community together.
