1、英语翻议讲解:现在是 VOA 特别英语词语典故节目。 一个人的鼻子对于呼吸和嗅觉来说非常重要。鼻子还被用在许多流行的表达方式中。 有些人能够牵着别人的鼻子走(lead other people by the nose)。例如,如果一个妻子牵着丈夫 的鼻子走,她能够让他做任何她希望他做的事情。 一些人被称为顽固的(hard-nosed)。他们不会改变自己对任何事情的观点或立场。如果某人很 顽固,他从来不会付出比真正价值更高的钱(pay through the nose),也就是说不会为某件东西 或服务付出太多钱。 避免插手他人的事情(keep their nose out of)总是有好处的。他

8、多闲事这与你无关。 7. keep ones nose to the grindstone 连续辛勤地工作 grindstone 是“磨刀石“的意思。这个表达很形象,按字面意思来看,是说鼻子对着磨刀石。想象 一下一个人低着头磨刀的样子,的确给人一种埋头苦干的直观印象啊。而且这个短语用动词 keep 表达一种持续的状态,把“埋头“的意思更生动地表达了出来。eg: These years those whore keeping their nose to the grindstone cant make bundles. 这年头,只会埋头苦干的人是挣不 了什么大钱的。8. keep ones no
