1、Summary of Unit Fivev There is no doubt that women are the poorest of the poor in many parts around the world. This is closely linked with gender equity and environmental policies and programs. Unfortunately, authorities concerned are unaware of it. When making environmental policies and drawing up
2、programs, they seldom take gender into account / consideration. As a result, a vicious cycle is set up, which is responsible for the poor situation that women are in. In order to change the situation, the author explores the synergies between the goals of gender equity, poverty alleviation and envir
3、onmental sustainability. Centering on the 7 aspects of Energy, Environment 1vand Gender, Climate Change and Gender, Land Tenure and Agriculture, Water, Health, Urbanization and Environmental Disasters, the author gives an account of them one by one. From this, we come to know that womens poor situat
4、ion is associated with gender, poverty and environment. However, many environmentalists belittle gender equity. They think of gender equity as trivial, not worth their energy and time. The author disagrees with them and argues that gender equity should be taken into account when environmentalists ma
5、ke policies. Adding gender as a third dimension will surely strengthen and sharpen environmental policies, and programs, but not waken or delay them.2Waste Management in BerganavIn the passage, a fact is presented to us: the population of Bergana is not growing, but declining at the moment. What hap
6、pened to this once densely-populated city, making families leave for better places to live and work? Among many reasons, waste if of the most important one. The city service can not deal with the domestic garbage daily because of the population there growing too quickly.3vAs a result, the streets be
7、came impassable and smelly due to the huge piles of untreated garbage. When floods came, garbage was carried everywhere, drains were clogged, too. On the other hand, many factories had been set up, adding more waste to the city. Water, rivers and the bay were polluted seriously. Both domestic and in
8、dustrial waste made the city unsuitable for people to live in. Water was undrinkable, the fish in the river was poisoned4vwith heavy metals, rivers and bay were dying, many if its streets are smelly and ugly. All this contribute to the declining of Bergana. So it is high time that Bergana needs to be given a new life.5
