2、学派（ Confucianism）的创始人，被尊称为古代的“圣人“（sage ）。汉语结构比较松散，无主语句到处可见。甚至会出现主语 只在开头主现，后面连续的动词都没有的情况。这在英语 里是不允许的。英语中除感叹句和部分特殊句式外，句子 最基本的成分就是主语+谓语，即名词（或相当于名词的 词或词组、句子）+动词。这句话在汉语里可以一句说出 ，但在英语里却要分别说成 3 个句子。“尊称”一词，由 于对孔子来说是被动的，所以用被动语态构成，除 respectfully as 外，还可用 honored as第 1 句： 孔子是中国历史上著名的思想家、教育家，是儒家学派（ Confucianism）

He was the founder of Confucianism and was respectfully referred to as an ancient “sage“.第 2句： 他的言论和生平活动记录在论语（The Analects）一书中。言论，即说过的话，用 words 足矣，不可用 speech 或 speaking. “生平活动”指的是孔子一生 的行迹，life story 很可以反映出来。千万不可画蛇

11、以用被动 语态译成：Without studying this book, the thousands-of- years traditional Chinese culture could hardly be truly understood. 这里，前一个否定词用了 without,后面用的 hardly 而没有用表达绝对意义的否定词 no 或者半否定词 not, 是呼应了“真正”一词的隐藏意义。同时，without 做 介词使“研究”一词以动名词形式出现，使本来两个谓语的 小句变成了一个谓语，节省了句子结构，使句子更加紧凑。第 4句： 不研究论语，就不能真正把握中国几千年的 传统文化。W
