4、eplacing the E38.If its predecessors were at the forefront of technical innovation when first launched, then the E65 is a genuine revolution in executive class automobiles. Sporting over 60 innovations, not only does put the technical credentials of the BMW marque to the test, but its attractiveness

8、ries- From the 335 to the E3Fig. 1: BMW 2500 (1968-1977)The first “big“ BMW was the showpiece 335 saloon which was launched in 1938 in London. A fast tourer (145 km/h), it was powered by a 3.5 litre straight six-cylinder which produced 90 bhp. Between 1939 and 1941, a total of three hundred and nine
9、ty three 335s were sold at a price of 7 ,850 Reichsmarks each.The 1951 IAA show saw the launch of the 501 saloon with its 2-litre, 6-cylinder, 65-bhp engine. Three years later, it was followed by the 502 with the worlds first V8 aluminium engine; as the 3200S, it was the fastest German mass-producti
10、on car in its class with a top speed of 190 km/h. From 1952 to 1964 a total of 21,851 “baroque angels“ were manufactured with various engine and body options.The E3, which was produced between 1968 and 1977 , was BMWs first volume-production executive model. In 1968, the 2800 was the first large sal
11、oon to break the 200 km/h barrier. 12、 BMW 732i (1979-1986)The first big BMW to be called a “7 Series“ even then sported ABS, electronic engine management with anti-knock sensor, on-board computer and ellipsoid headlights - at that time the absolute state of the art in automotive technology. In 1979, the 732i was the worlds first mass-p
13、roduced vehicle with digital engine electrics.Like the E3, the E23 was initially built at the Munich and Dingolfing factories. But from December 1982, the E23 - like all succeeding 7 Series - was produced only in Dingolfing. Between 1977 and 1986, 285,029 units of the E23 were sold under the designa
14、tions 725 and 745i.- The E32Fig. 3: BMW 750iL (1987-1994)The second-generation 7 Series gave BMW the breakthrough into the top end of the market. Design and equipment were greeted by press and public alike with almost euphoric praise. Unostentatious luxury coupled with sporting elegance and the very
15、 best in equipment levels were the selling points of the E32.Xenon headlights, Park Distance Control, adaptive transmission control, and most especially the first German 12-cylinder engine since the end of the Thirties made the car a model of real substance in comparison with its competitors. In 199
16、2, two eight-cylinder engines (3 and 4 litres) were introduced to bridge the gap between the straight six and the V12.KT-8622KT-8623E65 Introduction Chapter 1 P.4Course Contents/Background Material BMW AG, Service TrainingAs with its ancestor the E3, the E32 was also available as a long-wheelbase version which offered an extra 11 cm between the axles for greater rear-passenger comfort, and as a fully armour-protected, high-security saloon for politicians and VIPs.The E32 was posit
