He looked great, but I noticed that he had a slight limp when he walked.B: I guess you didnt know that he had an operation on his knee.A: No, I didnt.

2、Hows he feeling?B: He says hes feeling like a million dollars now. Apparently the pain in his knee is all gone.A: Its good that hes feeling so wonderful. It must be a refreshing change not having to put up with all that discomfort. 2. Sitting Pretty = in a fortunate position处于幸运的境地。 范例对话:A: I heard

3、that Michael and Jennifer got a good price when they sold their house.B: Yes, they did. Now theyre really sitting pretty. As a matter of fact, theyre thinking of going on a long vacation.A: I wish I were in such a fortunate position. I havent had a vacation in years.3. Have the World by the Tail = b

Get Away Clean = escape punishment罪犯逃脱掉惩罚。 范例短文:After robbing a neighborhood bank, the robbers sped off in a waiting car and got away

7、 clean. In spite of all police efforts to apprehend them, the criminals were never caught and punished for their crime. Session VI: When Things Go Wrong(不顺之时) 1. Lemon = something defective废物,没用的东西。 范例对话:A: Have you seen Joannes new car yet?B: Yeah. It looks good, but shes had nothing but problems w

8、ith it.A: Thats too bad. It sounds like she got a real lemon.B: She sure did! No sooner did she drive it home from the dealers than it proved defective and started breaking down.2. Get Up on the Wrong Side of the Bed = wake up in a bad mood起床时心情很坏。 范例对话:A: Whats the matter with Bernard today? He sta

9、rted shouting from the moment he stepped into the office.B: I dont know. He usually doesnt act that way at all. As a consequence, he was rapidly losing money and going into debt. 5. Face the Music = accept the consequences面对事实, 接受后果。 范例对话

13、:A: Its no wonder you have a stomachache. I told you not to eat so many green apples. You dont listen, and now youre going to have to face the music.B: The trouble with me is that I cant stop with just one or two, especially when theyre so tart. Ill admit that I tend to forget that eventually Im goi

When Tom was alerted that he was in danger of losing his job, he began to take his obligations with the company more seriously.
