1、Web Manager Job DescriptionThe goals of the WVC website are: 1. To provide current and accurate information for membership, including meetings, special events, relevant community events and general chapter business. 2. To exhibit professionalism befitting Technical Communicators. 3. To increase the

2、visibility of STC in the community 4. To support and encourage the professional growth of our members through volunteering, accessing local and online resources, and by accepting leadership roles in the chapter. 5. To provide information about the benefits of STC membership for both members and non-

3、members. 6. To abide by all guidelines for websites set by the national STC office.Monthly Updates: WVC and Community Meeting Information The website is updated at the first of every month with new meeting information and new “whats new” teasers on the home page. These updates involve the following

4、pages: Home page - The Web Manager typically writes and updates the home page blurbs. At times, the president or other officer will ask that an event be featured on the home page. These notifications can happen mid-month, so be flexible. Calendar - compiled by the Web Assistant at the first of the m

5、onth Program Meeting - The 1st Vice President provides this information All SIG meeting pages - SIG Managers provide information about their meetings. Community calendar - A volunteer is usually assigned to compile the community calendar. If no volunteer, the Web Assistant completes this. Any time-s

6、ensitive materials Provided by various managers or officersAbout a week prior to the first of the month, either the Web Manager or the Web Assistant posts a reminder on the Admin email list for managers to send meeting info. The Web Assistant performs the meeting updates and ensures that the calenda

7、r is current with links to the present months meeting pages and lists the next months meeting dates and topics (if available). Seasonal and Annual Updates At different times of year, we have events that require concentrated updates. The Competition is a good example of this type of event. Another is

8、 the administrative turnover in June. Below is a list of consistent updates with an expected time of activity: Competition 1. Pre-competition: usually Sept-Oct Work with Competition Manager to ensure all information is accurate for the current year. This includes the call for entries, online categor

9、y descriptions, PDF and DOC downloads of entry forms and rules, entry deadlines, the call for judges, and Awards banquet information. Typically, we include home page announcements for these events with links to the Competition section for more info. 2. Post-competition: usually November and Feb-Apri

10、l Work with Competition Manager and Publicity Manager to publicize the Awards banquet. After the banquet, post photos and credits for Best of Show winners. Create a new winners/judges page for the current competition, remembering to update the link on the competition page and adjust the menus to ref

11、lect the expansion. We will often post the chapter winners of the international competition when we receive the results.STC-U Sept. Nov Feb April (can vary) Classes can be planned at any time, but the above is typical. Instructors will provide class descriptions, which can then be posted to the site

12、. The STC-U schedule is included in the calendar and is featured on the home page. Seminars and Workshops varies update at least 2 months before event WVC usually has two special events during the year. Past years have been a seminar by Joann Hackos and a workshop by Ginny Redish. Typically, the Web

13、 Assistant creates a special page (based on the same layout used for Program meetings) for each of these events using information provided by the guest speaker. Photos and links are nice additions to the event page. Be sure these are publicized on the home page and listed in the calendar.Administrat

14、ive Turnover June-July New officers and managers mean a lot of changes on the website. The obvious changes occur on the WVC Officers page and the WVC Managers page. Both will require extensive updates with new names, bios (request from each individual) and photos.The not-so-obvious changes involve u

15、pdating all references to those officers/managers within the site itself. For instance, when we mention whom to contact about a SIG, we provide the title, the managers name and email. The best way to perform this site-wide update is to use HomeSites advanced search/replace feature to locate all occu

16、rrences of the officers name, title or email and replace with the new information. Expansions At times, new areas for expansion become obvious. For instance, in 1999-2000, we worked to expand the employment section with online salary survey resources, online job seeker links, and a listing of local contract and temp agencies. Projects like this are perfect for volunteers. The Web Manager typic
