3、n socialscience for the past decades. By integrating the factor analysis and path analysis into a comprehensiveanalytic paradigm, SEM can be applied to the applications of evaluation of measurement tool, theoreticalframework, research hypothesis testing, mediation and moderation effect, measurement

4、invariance,cross-validation, and multilevel modeling, etc.This course is particularly designed for the people inmanagement school who need to use SEM to examine the research data. Begin with an overview of theSEM paradigm, along with the introduction of statistical principles and analytic strategies

5、 of SEM. Thegoals of the course are to (a) ensure students to acquire necessary knowledge regarding SEM, (b) enablestudents to recognize the research reports using SEM, and (c) capable students to execute software toanalyze the real data. Some advanced issues will be discussed in the final part of t

6、he course. Prerequisiterequirement and enrolling permit by the lecture are set in advance to ensure the operation of the course.PrerequisitesRequired: The required prerequisite for this course is fundamental statistics (at least 3 units). Students without thesebackgrounds have to consult with the fi

7、rst instructor in advance.Recommended:The recommended prerequisite is computer knowledge and skills.Experience with statisticalpackages (SPSS, SAS, etc.) and computer programming is highly desirable for successful completion of this course.Students without any background in computer use are encourag

8、ed to team up with someone who does.Note: The software used in this course is LISREL8.8 student version(could be downloaded from the LISRELwebsite). The other programs, for example Mplus andAMOS will be also introduced during the class.Licensed software installed in students personal notebook PC are

9、 highly encouraged to bring into theclassroom and would be used in class exercises.2GradingEvaluation of student performance is based on the following criteria:1.Class participation (attendance, class interaction, after-c la s s d is c u s s io n ) 10%2.Paper Review 20%3.Computer lab homeworks30%4.f

10、inal paper 40%AssignmentThis course requires students to conduct some simple lab exercises/homeworks in correspondent to the class materials for appropriate course sections, along with one major final report.Homeworks:Several exercises and take-home works may requested to turn-in. Analysis based on

11、real empirical data is highly encouraged.Final paper:Students have to complete one empirical paper using SEM. Paper has to be prepared in well-structured format (APA) and ready to conference presentation. Results of analyses have to be orally reported in class in final week.Paper reviews:Reviews for

12、 two journal articles for SEM application (in English) have to be done. Reviews must contain the following contents: (1) a short introduction to the paper, including the major statistical tables and figures as well as the statistical procedures and explanations, (2) an evaluation to the paper in ter
