The thoughts of religions and pogroms of siblings make Jewish writers have the sense of guilty, the fate of history also gets them own the sense of wandering and segregation of American society also lets them find no place to live.1 The sense of wandering makes th
3、em seek the sense of belonging, which shows in their works. Although Jewish-American literature is sub-culture or the stream of culture, the Jewish writers have made great contribution to American literature by their own power.2 In the nineteen sixties to seventies, plenty of excellent Jewish writer
4、s crowded in the stage of American literature such as Isaac Bashevis Singer, Bernard Malamud, Philip Roth and Neil Simon. Isaac Bashevis Singer was a leading figure in the Yiddish literary movement and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1978. He won two U.S. National Book Awards, one in Childrens
5、Literature for his memoir A Day of Pleasure: Stories of a Boy Growing up in Warsaw and one in Fiction for his collection A Crown of Feathers and Other Stories. Along with Saul Bellow and Philip Roth, Bernard Malamud was one of the great American Jewish authors of the 20th century. His baseball novel
6、, The Natural, was adapted into a 1984 film starring Robert Redford. His 1966 novel The Fixer, about anti-Semitism in Tsarist Russia, won both the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. As for Philip Roth, he has been one of the most honored authors of his generation: his books have twice been
7、awarded the National Book Award, twice the National Book Critics Circle Award, and three times the PEN/Faulkner Award. He received a Pulitzer Prize for his 1997 novel, American Pastoral, which featured his best-known character, Nathan Zuckerman, the subject of many other of Roths novels. His 2001 no
8、vel The Human Stain, another Zuckerman novel, was awarded the United Kingdoms WH Smith Literary Award for the best book of the year. His fiction, set frequently in Newark, New Jersey, is known for its intensely autobiographical character, for philosophically and formally blurring the distinction bet
9、ween reality and fiction, for its supple, ingenious style and for its provocative explorations of Jewish and American identity. As to Neil Simon, he is a playwright. He has written numerous Broadway plays, including Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues (Tony Award) and The Odd Couple (winning the Pu
10、litzer Prize). He won the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his Lost in Yonkers. He has written the screenplays for several of his plays that were made into movies. He also has written the books for several musicals, including Sweet Charity.Of course, there are also lots of outstanding writers in Am
