11、信; 使某人明白I couldnt convince him of his mistake.I couldnt convince him that he was mistaken. because, as, since, for 辨析 这四个连词都表示原因,但内涵不同。because 重点在于说明原因或理由的从句,一般位于主句之后。如:You want to know why Im leaving? Im leaving because Im fed up.as 重点在主句,原因或理由,只是附带的说明,所以不能用来回答 why 提问的问句。since 和 as 接近,但语气较 as 强和正式,

12、用来表示显然的、已知的理由。As you are busy, you need not go with me.Since you refuse to co-operate, I shall be forced to take legal advice.for 是并列连词,引导的分句不能放在句首,其前面一般用逗号将主句隔开。for 所说的理由或原因是一种补充说明,是一种比较有文气的说法,有时相当于 because,可以表示直接原因,有时则不可。如:The ground is wet this morning, for/because it rained last night.It is morn

13、ing, for the birds are singing in the trees. must have been 表示对过去事情的推测You must have seen him yesterday. 你昨天肯定见到了他。I dont think he can have heard you. Call again.我想他肯定没听到你的声音,再喊他。 be in the possession of 属于;为所有(含被动意味,主语应为物)be in possession of 拥有(含主动意味,主语应为 人)He was born in New York, while the city wa

14、s still in the possession of the British troops. The chief was in possession of a large quantity of stolen property. manage to do sth. 设法(成功)做成某事He managed to persuade her but failed. (tried) 他试图说服她,但未成功。He was a terrific liar: he managed to make anybody believe him. (could make)他是个了不起的骗子,他能让任何人都相信他。I talked for a long time, and in the end I could make her believe. (managed to make)我说了许久,最终设法使她相信了我。
