In the cultural exchanges between different ethnic groups, the translation played a crucial role, because

2、it is a medium for people of different languages and cultural backgrounds to have communications with each other, exchanging of ideas, the approach of mutual understanding, and in addition, through the mechanism of the transformation language to connect their own culture and the exotic cultural brid

3、ge. Thus, translation and culture, is inseparably related. Translation is to convey the essence of culture. As a result, scholars have made a lot of research on cultural differences and their effects on translation, conflict and integration, and have made a large number of academic reports. This pap

4、er aims to talk about the effects of East-West cultural differences on translation and analyze some useful translation ways. And at last here comes the conclusion of how to make a good translation to lessen our cultural gap, and to deepen our communication. Tao Sanqin thinks the relationship between

5、 language and culture is very complicated and important in the cross-cultural translation work. First,language is not only the carrier of information,but also the carrier of culture. In his Language and Linguistics, J.Lyons(1982:34) stated ,“ Particular languages are associated historically with par

6、ticular cultures; the languages provide the key to the associated cultures and especially to their literature; the languages themselves cannot be fully understood otherwise than in the context of cultures in which they are inextricably embedded.” The statement shows that language is a part of a cult

7、ure,it is used to serve and reflect culture needs,through which we can get a glimpse of the culture forms of that nation, such as customs,art and literature. Actually, language emerges under cultural background and then culture influences and shapes its linguistic system. Thus we can come to the con

8、clusion that language andculture are interdependent and inseparable. On one hand,the using and understanding of a language are based on cultural background; on the other hand, each culture necessarily has some reflection in its language. The difference in cultures will be inevitably embodied in diff

9、erent levels of language system. Language is seen as the garment as well as the instrument of culture. One cannot separate the two without losing the significance of either language or culture. Translation is communication between different cultures. Familiarity with a culture is as important asa ma

10、stery of two languages. In view of the above,discussed in this essay are the cultural difference between East and west and a comparison of the expressions under the influence of cultural difference. So,in translation,adequate cultural conversion should be made to complete the cultural communication.

11、Tan Huiming thinks that the statement from the well-known American translator Translation is to show equivalent language of reappearance of the original language,from the semantic to styles in the receptor language is not totally exact. Though he refers to the equivalence translation in the level of

12、 semantics and language styles, he lacks of the reappearance of culture. According to Tan, the correct understanding of translation is the cultural communication of interlinguitics and information transfer of branches. There exists a close relationship among language, culture and translation. Consid

13、er the specific differences of east- west culture, she indicates five expects, such as the different values, different national aesthetic standard, religious faith, traditional cultural sense and images, geographic environment conditions and material production ways. Therefore, under such circumstan

14、ces, Tan Huiming says that translators cannot do the translation as stiff as a poker and strain the meaning of words literally from the context. The sensitiveness of cultures is a necessity of a excellent translator. Wang Zuoliang says a translator must be a real cultural worker. Indeed, the so-call

15、ed real cultural worker is to require the translator to charge the culture of both the resource language and the target language, and to deliver the super-phonetic information-the cultural information which is additional to language. Different people share different ideas about translation methods a

16、nd cross-cultural communication . In view of Sun Hongmei, she made a statement in her paper Cultural Differences And Translation. She thinks that in the field of translation studies,scholars understanding of translation in its traditional sense has shifted along with the popularity and prosperous development of cultural studies in the recent years.Translation is no longer regarded as merely a cross一linguistic activity but essentially cross一cultural communication.Cultural f
