2、 tion CNIPA released an offi cial seal for geographical indications GIs According to relevant regula tions including theTrademark Law of the People s Republic of Chinaandthe Patent Law of the People s Republic of China CNIPA is competent for regis tering GIs and rendering official pro tection The ou
3、tgoing seal is still valid before the new one is used officially and its transitional period will last until December 31 2020 A principal of CNIPA s IP Protec tion Department introduced that the of ficial seal for GIs is designed to reflect authority representation versatile to suit and easy to iden
4、tify The seal is an official one featuring solemnity and au thority and designed with the silhou ette of the Great Wall and mountains as its foreground and the ears of rice symbolizing a good harvest which are the most representative geographical cultural and historical signs and con vey the excelle
5、nt quality and reliability of Chinese GIs The transparent and hollowed design makes it more harmo nious when the mark is used on vari ous products and packages by compa nies The base is designed in the shape of the Earth with drawing longitude lines and latitude lines and written with both the Chine
6、se and English words GEOGRAPHICAL INDICA TION OF P R CHINA and GI the abbreviation of Geographical Indica tion ensuring directness and readabili ty for consumers with different lan guage and cultural backgrounds and re flecting GI s nature as a universally ac cepted IP and the vision of enlisting it
7、s help to propelChinese products to oversea markets The same principal said that the re lease of the seal represents a solid step CNIPA has taken in unifying opera tions relating to GI certification Regu lations governing the use of the seal will be formulated separately by CNI PA In implementation
8、of the relevant requirements of institutional restructur ing the Administration will facilitate relevant work of unifying GI certifica tion systems making efforts to achieve a unified GI receiving channel exami nationstandard publicationofga zettes special seal protection and su pervision by Li Duo
