13、rejustaphonecallawayfromeachother.Thishasopenedthefloodgatesoflarge-scalemigrationfromIndiatoplacesofopportunitiestoearnlivelihoodandimprovetheeconomicconditions.Howeverthemigrantsdocarrytheirstrongfamilyandsocialtraditionsalongwiththem.Immediatesocialenvironmentsofthehostadoptedsocietiesalsoaffectt
14、hembutgradually.Inasituationlikethisthemigrantsreturntotheirrootsandthelandoftheirforefatherseetingmostoftheirsocialneedsparticularlyarriages.Mostmalessettledabroadprefertomarrygirlsfrombackhome.OtherssuccumbunderfamilypressuretoenterintoarrangedmarriageswithgirlsfromIndia.Mostofthetimetheboyandgirl
15、asinarrangedIndianmarriageshavenevermetbeforemarriage.Thisleadstoveryunsavouryanddisastrousconsequencesgivingwaytomanyasocialproblem.1.1THEPROBLEMManyIndianwomenwhoenterintoarrangedmarriageswithnon-residentIndiansareleduptoagardenpathbythehusbandsfamilywhoprojectrosyandmisleadingpicturesabouttheirin
16、comeandstatus.Thegirlsfamilyneitherhastheresourcesnorisinapositiontoverifytheirexaggeratedclaims.Thegreathurryinwhichsuchmarriagesarealisedleaveshardlyanytimetoverifytheveracityoftheclaims.Sometimestheboysmaybealreadymarriedwhichmayormaynotbeintheixknowledgeoftheboysfamily.Greedofdowrymaybeanotherreasononthepartoftheboystohastenthemarriage.Themotivationofthegirlsfamilytofindanon-residentgroomispartlytheperceivedhighandglamorousstatusofthegroomthoughpretentiousandpartlytheirurgeforanopenin
