It was also the best-selling book in the UK from a new novelist in 2012.This novel is about a recently retired 65 years old man cross from the south of Britain all the way to north to visit a dying colleague who is suffering from cancer. It sounds twee, but its more surprisin

3、g and even inspiring. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry ,this novel completely shows that even if you are an aging person,it does not mean you should just stuck at home,at the point in life where some people might think that is all they can do. Youre not going to change anything else. youre not

4、going to change your own life, you cant make new friends, However,Harold throws all that up in the air, and it surprises himself as much as it surprises us.The thesis analyzes the personality of the main character ,Harold fry.by showing his early life experience,especially the conflicts in his early

5、 life;pilgrimage road ;and the life change at the end. 6、的65岁的老人独自一人徒步从英国南部横穿整个英国到北部去见一个身患癌症的垂死老友.听起来是一个俗套的故事,但其实这是一个令人出乎意料 甚至鼓舞人心的故事。一个人的朝圣向我们完全展示了即使你是一个年迈的老人,也并不意味着你要像处于这个年龄阶段的大多数人那样认为这个年龄就完全不能改变任何事情,不能改变自己目前的生活,不能交新朋友,而只能完全被困在家里,然而哈罗德向我们证实了即使这样,我们仍然可以改变我们的人生让其变得有意义。本文旨在通过分析主人公哈罗德的个人早前人生经历,尤其是他人生中的诸多矛盾冲突;“朝圣”之路;以及这之后所带来的人生改变来展示哈罗德的人物形象。关键词:一个人的朝圣; 哈罗德;

And she has written plays for BBC Radio Four, and won the 2007 Tinniswood Award for her To Be a Pilgrim. She is also the author of the Sunday Times and international bestsellers The Unlikely Pilgrimage of

8、 Harold Fry, her other famous books including Perfect and The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy. Her most representative work is The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry,which has won National Book Prize,it also has been translated into 34 languages.The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry published in 2

9、012.That was Joyce s first novel. She is also a author of short story, A Faraway Smell of Lemon and the forthcoming short story collection, A Snow Garden & Other Stories and a new novel for 2016, The Music Shop.Rachel Joyce has written over 20 original afternoon plays for BBC Radio 4, and major adap

10、tations for both the Classic Series. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry,it was a story about an old man, Harold Fry, 65, who recently just retired. his home at Kings bridge on the south coast of Devon .As how the author started her writing at the beginning of this book:“The letter that would chan

11、ge everything arrived on a Tuesday”.It was really just a very ordinary morning in April,it was this morning Harold got a letter from an old colleague of twenty years ago,Queenie Hennessy who is suffering from cancer and now is in a hospital in Berwick-upon-Tweed. After he read that letter,some very

12、complicated feelings attacked him.He was going to write a return letter to her to say goodbye.He wrote many times but could never find any good words to say,finally he wrote her a very simple and brief note and ready to send it, however,when he walked to a post which appears in front of him earlier

13、than he expected. When he was about to put his letter into that post,he has second thoughts, he thinks that what he wrote down is not enough to show his sorry for his old friend.So he was thinking why not walk to the next post box and the post it, however when he arrived the next,he still can not ju

14、st put that letter on the box, something is wrong ,what inside of his letter still can not show his attitude to his friend.So he keeps walking,to the next post and the next.Along the way,he decided to keep walking to deliver it by hand to Queenie instead of posting it.He called her hospital to tell

15、her as long as he is walking ,she should be in this world and stay alive.A girl he met at a petrol filling station told him If you have faith you can do anything. From then, the journey which he will cross the whole Britain in 87 days will cover 627 miles started. He recalled so many memories in his

16、 life while he was walking to the north. He thought about his own marriage, his early employment as a brewery representative; about his only son David who committed suicide in early his age, from whom he is almost completely estranged. From stopping at those places he sent postcards to his wife Maureen, and to his friend from long time ago, Queenie, and to the girl at the petr
