32、andMissionViejogrew30percent.ThehotspotsincludedVenturaCounty,theSantaClaritaValley,theAntelopeValley,theVictorville-Hesperiaarea,theCoachellaValley(Indio-PalmSprings),theHemetareaandtheTemecula-Murrietaarea.AnargumentcouldbemadethatTemecula-MurrietawouldbeintheSanDiegometropolitanareaifmetropolitan

35、fiftyyearsthegrowthhasbeen“overthehill”intheSanFernandoValley,aformerlyruralareawhichwasannexedbythecitybefore1930.Between1950and2010,thepopulationoftheSanFernandoValleygrewfrom300,000to1,400,000.Thus,theValleygrewlikevirtuallyeveryfast-growinghistoricalcorecityinthenationthathasgrownsince1950,byfil

37、dexurbswasnotsufficienttodragtheregionalpopulationincrease(9percent)uptothenationalrateof10percentbetween2000and2010.Theimmediateprognosisshouldbeforevenslowergrowth.Thefinancial,regulatoryandcostoflivingdisadvantagesofCaliforniaarewidelyrecognizedbyhouseholdsandbusinessesalike.Withstrongerregulatio

38、nsintheoffing,suchasthestrongerlanduserestrictionslikelytooccurasaresultofSenateBill375,anyfuturegrowthontheperipherycouldbedampened.Evenwithmulti-billionsupportintermsoftaxbreaksandpublicinvestment,thecentralcoreseemsunlikelytocomeclosetomakingmuchofarealdifference,atleastbeyondthemedia.LosAngelesm
