I hear, Mr Xiao, that youve invented some really useful things. XF: Yes, indeed. My first invention is a pair of flying boots operated

5、by a small computer chip.XF: Having put them on and turned the switch, you rise slightly from the ground and hover. Then you can move swiftly in any direction.ZN: Mm! Can they go up or down?XF: Sorry. They cant do that yet. At the moment you can only travel about fifteen centimetres above the ground

But it can change its thickness according to the temperature.ZN: How does it do that?XF: This quilt has a tiny sensor and air pump inside. It will make

7、 adjustments according to changes in temperature. When the temperature is higher, part of the air inside will come out and the quilt becomes thinner and feels cool in bed. When the temperature is lower, the quilts takes in more air and becomes thicker. As a result, it gives a thick, warm cover for t

At the moment it is difficult to stay for one full day under water except under special conditions. In Key Largo, Florida, scientists have devised an undersea laboratory, which me

35、ans that people can live and work under water for up to ten days at a time before returning to the surface. By the year AD 3008 it will undoubtedly be possible to stay under water even longer. Living underwater is similar to going into space. Both affect the human body badly. In space, the lack of g

36、ravity makes a person grow taller and his/her bones become more brittle. Under water, the pressure pressing down on the person is too great. So, people living underwater have to come back up to the surface to restore their bodies to normal. In the reading, three man-made islands have been provided f

37、or this purpose for the people of Saturation City. People are asked to move and live under the sea in AD 3008. It is assumed that the population on earth has become so great that it is impossible for them all to find a place to live on land. Perhaps global warming has melted the ice in the North and
