13、edbytheannualcensusofforeignstudentsintheUnitedStatesfortheyear1995/96,weseethatmostoftheforeignstudentsstudyingintheUnitedStatesduringthisyearwerefromSouthandEastAsia.ThisisaratherlargegeographicalareawhichincludessuchcountriesasChina,Korea,Pakistan,India,Malaysia,andIndonesia.Thetotalnumberofstude
14、ntsfromthisarea,SouthandEastAsiawas156,830.Inotherwords,roughly2outofevery5foreignstudentscomefromSouthandEastAsia.Almost24,000ofthistotalwerefromChina.Malaysiawasclosebehindwithjustalittleover23,000students.ThenextlargestnumberofstudentscamefromtheMiddleEast.ThenumberofstudentsfromtheMiddleEastcame
15、toaboutone-thirdthenumberfromSouthandEastAsia.ThefourthlargestnumbercamefromSouthAmerica.NextcameEurope,Africa,NorthAmerica,andOceania.Letsrecapitulatewhatwevesaid.ThelargestnumberofstudentsstudyingintheUnitedStatesduringtheacademicyear1995/96werefromSouthandEastAsia,followedbytheMiddleEast,SouthAme
