5、?01:54Wedidthat。TheHarvardStudyofAdultDevelopmentmaybethelongeststudyofadultlifethatseverbeendone。For75years,wevetrackedthelivesof724men,yearafteryear,askingabouttheirwork,theirhomelives,theirhealth,andofcourseaskingallalongthewaywithoutknowinghowtheirlifestoriesweregoingtoturnout.02:24Studiesliketh
6、isareexceedinglyrare.Almostallprojectsofthiskindfallapartwithinadecadebecausetoomanypeopledropoutofthestudy,orfundingfortheresearchdriesup,ortheresearchersgetdistracted,ortheydie,andnobodymovestheballfurtherdownthefield。Butthroughacombinationofluckandthepersistenceofseveralgenerationsofresearchers,t
7、hisstudyhassurvived。About60ofouroriginal724menarestillalive,stillparticipatinginthestudy,mostofthemintheir90s.Andwearenowbeginningtostudythemorethan2,000childrenofthesemen.AndImthefourthdirectorofthestudy.03:14Since1938,wevetrackedthelivesoftwogroupsofmen.Thefirstgroupstartedinthestudywhentheywereso
8、phomoresatHarvardCollege。TheyallfinishedcollegeduringWorldWarII,andthenmostwentofftoserveinthewar.AndthesecondgroupthatwevefollowedwasagroupofboysfromBostonspoorestneighborhoods,boyswhowerechosenforthestudyspecificallybecausetheywerefromsomeofthemosttroubledanddisadvantagedfamiliesintheBostonofthe19
9、30s.Mostlivedintenements,manywithouthotandcoldrunningwater.03:53Whentheyenteredthestudy,alloftheseteenagerswereinterviewed.Theyweregivenmedicalexams.Wewenttotheirhomesandweinterviewedtheirparents。Andthentheseteenagersgrewupintoadultswhoenteredallwalksoflife.Theybecamefactoryworkersandlawyersandbrick
10、layersanddoctors,onePresidentoftheUnitedStates。Somedevelopedalcoholism.Afewdevelopedschizophrenia.Someclimbedthesocialladderfromthebottomallthewaytotheverytop,andsomemadethatjourneyintheoppositedirection。04:34ThefoundersofthisstudywouldneverintheirwildestdreamshaveimaginedthatIwouldbestandingheretod
