4、elearningstrategies2.1DefinitionsoflanguagelearningstrategiesLanguagelearningstrategieshavebeendevelopedfrom1970s.Rubin1975definedlanguagelearningstrategiesastoolsthatexcellentlanguagelearnersmayuseforachievingknowledge.Stern1975comparedthedifferentbehaviorsbetweenexcellentandpoorlanguagelearnersand
5、definedlanguagelearningstrategiesasparticularformsofobservablebehaviors.Chamot1987analyzedlanguagelearningstrategiesfromfunctionalperspectiveandreferredthetermastechniquesormethodsorpurposefulactionsthatlanguageuserstaketofacilitatelearninglinguisticandcontentinformation.Tarone1980concernedmorefroms
6、ocialaspectandaddedsociolinguisticinformationtotheareaoflearnersinformationacquisition.Rubin1987redefinedthistermfromtheangleoflearningeffectandviewedstrategiesasawholetodevelopthelanguagesystem.Oxford1990gaveacomprehensivedefinitionofthistermsinceitcoveredallprocessesoflanguagelearningincludinginte
7、rnalization，storage，retrievalanduseofthenewlanguageandconsideredthelanguagedevelopmentofL2learners.2.2ClassificationsoflanguagelearningstrategiesOMallyandChamot1990dividedlanguagelearningstrategiesintothreemajorcategories：metacognitive，cognitiveandsocial/affectivestrategies.Thethree-wayclassificatio
8、ncanbeusedasconceptualframeworktovariouslanguagelearningtasks.Theypointedoutthatmetacogintivewereusedtodescribetheexecutiveskillsinvolvingplanning，monitoringorevaluatingsuccessfullearningactivitywhilecognitivestrategieswererelevanttocognitiveprocess，suchasperceivingandproblem-solving，whichfacilitate
9、dtogaininformationtoimprovelearning.Whatsmore，social/affectivestrategieswererelatedtomentalorpsychologicalprocess，including“cooperation，questionforclarificationandself-talkOMallyandChamot，1990，p.44.Oxford1990，p.35-55developedtheirtheoryandcategorizedlearningstrategiesintotwomaingroups，directstrategi
10、esandindirectstrategies.Inhissubcategories，memory，cognitiveandcompensationstrategieswereunderdirectgroup，wherasmeta-cognitive，affectiveandsocialstrategieswereunderindirectgroup.Stern1992，pp.262-266furtherdevelopedOxfordstheoryanddividedlanguagelearningstrategiesintofivecategories：“managementplanning
11、strategies，cognitivestrategies，communicative-experientialstrategies，interpersonalandaffectivestrategies.However，theclassificationwasnotclear.Forexample，interpersonalstrategiesmayoverlapaffectivestrategies.Insomesituation，itisimpossibletodrawaclear-cutlinebetweentheabove-mentionedfivekindsofstrategie
12、s.CohenandWen2000groupedlearningstrategiesintotwoclasses：languagelearningstrategiesandlanguageusestrategies，whichseemstobemorecomprehensiveandconcise，butitisdifficulttodistinguishthetwotypesoflanguagelearningstrategiesinaparticularlanguagelearningactivity，especiallyinthesecondorforeignlanguagelearni
13、ngcontext.TheresearchinthispaperwilladoptOxfordsmodelbecausemajorityofresearchersandscholarsbelievethatlanguageshouldbeusedforcommunication，whichexactlytheemphasisofOxfordstheory.endprint3.FactorsInfluencinglanguageLearningStrategiesAsahumanbeing，eachindividualmayapplylanguagelearningstrategiestocop
14、ewithdifferentlearningdifficulties.ThisstudyreviewsthefactorsinfluencingtheselecionoflanguagelearningstrategiesofbusinessEnglishmajorstoenhancetheEnglishcompetencyofbusinessEnglishmajors.3.1GenderasadeterminingfactorZheng2020provedthatfemaleandmalelanguagelearnersfavoreddifferentlanguagestrategiesan
15、dfemaleleanerersdevotedmoretimetolanguagelearningandusedmorelanguagelearningstrategies.Theresultconfirmedthegeneralbeliefthatfemalelearnerscaredmoreaboutlanguagelearningandlanguageusethanmalestudents.Inhisfinding，femalelearnerslikedtousemorememorystrategies，compensationandaffectivestrategiesthanmale
16、participantsinthestudy.Thus，womenandmenhavebornhumannatureinlanguagelearning，whichneedstobetakenintoconsiderationwhenexploringthefactorsinfluencingtheselectionoflanguagelearningstrategiesofbusinessEnglishmajors.3.2LanguageproficiencyasadeterminingfactorHan2020conductedanempiricalstudytoinvestigateEnglishlearningstrategiesbetweenhighandlowscoregroupofcollegeEnglishstudents.Thefindingrevealedthathighproficiencylearnersusedstrategymorefreq
