Afterwelanded,Ihadthepleasureofmeetingwithourdedicatedembassystaffandintelligen
2、ceofficersservingfarfromhomeunderdangerouscircumstances.AndIwashonoredtomeetwithsomeofourtroops,includingthoseresponsibleforbringingjusticetotheterroristZarqawi.Itwasaprivilegetoshaketheirhands,lookthemintheeye,andtellthemhowmuchtheAmericanpeopleappreciatetheirdailycourage,andhowmuchweappreciatethes
3、acrificesthattheyandtheirfamiliesaremaking. Onmytrip,IalsometwiththenewIraqiPrimeMinisterMaliki,andIwasabletoseefirsthandhisstrongcharacterandhisdeterminationtosucceed.WeheldajointmeetingofourtwoCabinets,withmembersofmyCabinetparticipatingbyvideoteleconferencefromCampDavid.ThePrimeMinisterbrie公务员之家版

5、istoppriorityissecuringBaghdad,soCoalitionandIraqiforceshavelaunchedOperationTogetherForward,ajointefforttorestoresecurityandtheruleoflawtohigh-riskareasofthecity.TohelpthePrimeMinisterimprovesecurity,wewillcontinueembeddingCoalitiontransitionteamsinIraqiarmyandpoliceunits,andwewillhelpthenewIraqiMi
6、nistersofDefenseandInteriorimprovetheircommandandcontrol,rootoutcorruption,andinvestigateandpunishhumanrightsviolations.WewillalsosupportthePrimeMinisterasheworkstoreininillegalmilitias,buildajudicialsystemthatwillprovideequaljusticetoall,andpromotereconciliationamongtheIraqipeople. ToaidthePrimeMin
7、isterinrevitalizingIraqseconomy,wewillsendadditionalexpertstohelptheIraqigovernmentdevelopaneconomicframeworkthatwillpromotejobcreationandopportunityforallIraqis.WewillalsohelpthePrimeMinisterincreaseoilandelectricityproductionbyworkingtogetheronwaystoprotectkeyinfrastructurefromattacks,andtoquickly
8、restoreoilandelectricityproductionwhenattacksdooccur. Finally,AmericawillhelpthePrimeMinisterengagetheinternationalcommunityinIraqssuccess.WewillencourageothernationstofulfillthemonetarypledgestheyhavealreadymadetohelpthenewIraqigovernmentsucceed.WewillalsosupportthePrimeMinisterseffortstoforgeanewi
9、nternationalcompact.Underthiscompact,Iraqwilltakeaseriesofstepsinthepolitical,economic,andsecurityareas,andinreturn,theinternationalcommunitywillprovideIraqwithmorerobustpoliticalandeconomicsupport. Duringmytrip,IwasimpressedwiththePrimeMinister,theteamhehasassembled,andtheplanhehassetforhisgovernme
10、nt.Iappreciatehisdetermination,andthedeterminationofhisCabinet,tomakehisagendawork.ItoldthemthatthefutureofIraqisintheirhands.AndItoldthemthatAmericaisanationthatkeepsitsword,andAmericawillstandwiththemasweworktowardoursharedgoal:afreeIraqthatcangovernitself,sustainitself,anddefenditself.Byseizingth
11、ismomentofopportunity,wewilldefeatourcommonenemiesandbuildalastingdemocracyintheheartoftheMiddleEast,andthatwillmakeAmericans,Iraqis,andtheworldmoresecure. ItraveledtoBaghdadtopersonallyshowourNationscommitmenttoafreeIraq,becauseitisvitalfortheIraqipeopletoknowwithcertaintythatAmericawillnotabandont
