1、Meade School District 46-1“To build knowledge and skills for success today and tomorrow”High School Basic Computer EngineeringCOURSE PLANNERCourse Description:Basic Computer Engineering or ExplorNet is an elective course in the Computer/Vocational Education Department. In this course, students learn

2、 how to build, upgrade, and troubleshoot computers. The curriculum will also give students the technical and customer satisfaction skills to test for the A+ certification exam, and internationally recognized validation of the skills required of an entry-level computer service technician.Even if the

3、student does not want to be a computer technician, the course will help students understand computers beyond what they ever expected to know. The student will be able to do a lot of troubleshooting with his own computers. He will also learn that by purchasing components separately, he can get more c

4、omputer for his money.For those students who are considering a possible career in computer service, this course will help with the transition into higher education or the workplace.The text, A+ Core Hardware Fundamentals, will teach students how to install and maintain PC hardware. It has been writt

5、en to help students pass the A+ Core Hardware exam. Students will learn about system hardware components, their function and what to do when failures occur. They will have opportunities to apply what they learn in practical situations through a series of hands-on labs. The course is appropriate for

6、persons working in any technical or support position and meets all of the test objectives of the A+ Core Hardware exam.The text, A+ Operating System Fundamentals, will teach students how to work with Windows 95, Windows 98 (including Windows 98 Second Edition), Windows NT and the Windows 2000 operat

7、ing systems. Students will gain experience in installing and managing the Windows family of operating systems. They will learn how to recognize and correct common operating system errors. They will practice what they have learned through a series of hands-on labs and instructor demonstrations. The c

8、ourse is appropriate for persons working in any technical or support position and meets all of the test objectives of the A+ Operating Systems exam.Instructional Philosophy:Students will be expected to meet the course goals listed and be able to demonstrate required concepts. Method of instruction w

9、ill include, verbal instruction, demonstration, video, and numerous hands-on and written lab work. Students will have the opportunity to work in teams and independently on a wide variety of projects and activities. Assignments will require students to draw upon previously learned computer skills and

10、 academic skills in mathematics, physics, language arts and science. The grading program used in Meade 46-1 allows the parents to access students grades and attendance/tardies on a daily basis. Communication between the classroom instructor and the parents is made possible through the e-mail functio

11、n in the program.Course Goals:After completing A+ Core Hardware Fundamentals, the student will be able to: Explain basic PC functions and operational theory. Identify key system components and peripherals. Recognize when startup errors occur and decode error messages to determine their probable caus

12、e. Describe power supply function and identify power supply types. Identify concerns about and sources of high-voltage shock hazards and electrostatic discharge (ESD). Identify, remove and replace key motherboard components, including the system microprocessor and system memory. Describe common type

13、s of computer memory and their applications. Use the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) setup program to view and modify system configuration parameters. Identify the purpose and use of expansion buses currently in use. Configure and install common adapter boards. Remove and replace storage devices. I

14、dentify standard ports, their associated cables and their use. Install and configure external peripherals. Install and configure the hardware required for network access. Identify preventive maintenance tools and procedures. Eliminate potential environmental risks. Remove and replace system componen

15、ts and modules. Recognize common errors and identify probable solutions.After completing A+ Operating System Fundamentals, the student will be able to: Identify common operating system functions. Compare and contrast Windows 9x, Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating system features. Navigate the Win

16、dows 9x and 2000 desktop environments. Install and configure Windows 98 as a clean installation. Install and configure Windows 2000 as a clean installation for a dual-boot configuration. Describe the procedures for Windows 9x and Windows NT/2000 upgrade installations. Identify legacy, Windows NT, Windows 9x and Windows 2000 core operating system files. Start
