Computer-Integrated Manufacturing Computer-Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) is the overall umbrella of computer management in the manufacturing process. CIM is a system whereby all
4、aspects of a companys operation are computerized and tied to a common database. An important element of CIM is CAD/CAM and DNC. A CIM system unifies business. engineering, process planning, inventory, manufacturing, and postproduction. A CIM system is like an orchestra. Each component duty must work
5、 with the others through a single database, central software, and an open communications network. Each task is an independent process that must work with all others. Many types of strategies have been formulated to increase the efficiency of operations within CIM. Chief among them are Group Technolo
6、gy (GT) and Just-In-Time (JIT). Group Technology is a system for reducing needless duplication of effort. Just- In-Time is a way of operating such that all unnecessary waste and invaluable elements are eliminated.1计算机集成制造 计算机集成制造（CIM）犹如一把大伞，覆盖计算机对整个制造过程的管理。将公司各方面的工作都计算机化并连接到一个公用的数据库，由此形成的系统称为计算机集成制造

Flexible Manufacturing System A flexible machining system is a system of CNC machines, robots, and part transfer vehicles that can take a part form raw stock or casting and perform all nece
9、ssary machining, part handling, and inspection operations to make a finished part or assembly (Figure 20-1). 10、production with little, if any, wasted time and less human intervention. Efficient use of FMS can reduce costs in two ways.
