After witnessing the birth of a new life and the death at the same time, Nick starts to consider about life.

5、outline of the storyThrough the perspective of a child, Nick, this novel presents the entire process of death. In a late night, Nick followed his doctor father to the Indian camp to help a woman who had trouble in labor. She had been trying to have her baby for two days. When Nick and his father wal

6、ked into the shanty along with two Indians, the woman lying on the wooden bunk was screaming and her husband, who cut his foot badly with an ax three days before, was lying on the upper bunk. He was smoking a pipe and the room smelled very bad. Without bringing the anesthetic, Nicks father operated

7、on that Indian woman in the absence of anesthetic. When everything calmed down and the baby was finally born, the father on the upper bunk was found dead. His throat had been cut from ear to ear. The blood had flowed down into a pool where his body sagged the bunk. As a child, Nick witnessed the pro

8、cess of both birth and death, and it is the first time that he felt the cruelty of life. He experienced death for the first time and it is at the same moment of the birth of a child. All these events happened in the Indian camp slashed his calm childhood and push

12、ed him to ponder about the life in reality. 2. Studies on contrary images2.1 Dark night and dawnThe alternation of dark night and dawn represents the alternation of the moon and sun, which also implies the cyclic process of life. And life and death are always boned to each other. According to Jungs

13、view of collective unconsciousness, the night represents the death and the dawn symbolizes new life. Because the night is filled with mysteries and the unknown, and the dawn represents hope. Hemingway always kept exploring death. In Indian camp, the authors cited a large number of images, exploring

14、all kinds of relations between life and death. The novel begins on a dark night and ends at dawn. During the dark night, the authors set up a lot of lights: the light came from Uncle Georges cigar; the light of a lantern carried by two Indians; and the light of the shanties where the Indian bark pee

15、lers lived. All these lights that are shining in the dark night imply a special significance. Although the night symbolizes death, but it is not too desperate, and these lights reveal the hope contained in the authors mind. After the child was born, Nicks father also carried a lamp, looking in the upper bunk to see how the babys father was, only found that he was dead and lying in a pool of blood. As an underage child, Nick witnessed the birth of a child and a fathers death. The novel ends at dawn and the morning always gives hope. The image of night and dawn are us
