In the 1980s, only about 1,216 pandas were left in the wild, but the most recent calculation counted more than 1,800.The increased numbers could be due to improved survey methods or true growth from better protection measures. In either case, pandas still face plenty of threats, of which habitat loss is the main one to survival. Human growth in their areas, combined with climate change, has led to the loss of livable land. In addition, pandas have been facing dangers from illegal hunting.Because pandas are now distributed across China in groups, with each group separated from the others due to habitat destruction, the Chinese government is creating a huge national park in southwestern China to protect them. Giant Panda National Park will cover 10,476 square miles (27,132 square kilometers), which is nearly three times the area of Yellowstone National Park. The new park will make an effort to reunite populations that have become separated from one another.“This project takes the long view,” Bob Tansey, China policy adviser for The Nature Conservancy, tells National Geographic. “Generally, pandas are doing well. But what will they need in the future? Connectivity.”The parks connectivity should give isolated pandas a better chance to breed. Giant pandas have a very low reproductive rate, with females generally giving birth every two years, the WWF reports. The new park eventually should give them room to find mates, thus resulting in more young pandas. After all, habitat will remain patchy until degraded lands are restored and stronger landuse restrictions come into effect that make wildlife corridors possible. The park also aims to promote the local economy, The Associated Press reports. An official involved in the parks planning tells the staterun China Daily, this project would help ease poverty among the 170,000 people living within the parks proposed territory. The government is offering financial support to encourage people living in the area to relocate, according to National Geographic. Some areas of the park also eventually will allow tourism.1.Whats the main idea of the second paragraph?A.The main challenges pandas still face.B.The dangers humans bring to the pandas.C.The reason for the loss of pandas habitats.D.The measures taken to protect pandas.2.What does Bob Tansey expect of the project?A.Itll house more isolated pandas.B.Itll favor female pandas with babies.C.Itll benefit the process of reproducing.D.Itll serve as a comfortable habitat for pandas.3.Why will tourism get permission in this panda park?A.Tourism helps gain high profits.B.Tourism accelerates the speed of allocation.C.Tourism results in economic boom absolutely.D.Tourism contributes to lessening the economic pressure.四、阅读七选五Rules You Must Follow When Traveling with FriendsTraveling with friends can be an amazing experience. Here are some rules you should follow to make sure your next trip with friends goes as smoothly as possible.Include at least one activity for everyoneSure, you and your friends probably have some similar interests, but thats not always the case. 1 .Have each person categorize activities, sights, etc.into “mustsee”, “want to see” and “would go if we have time”, and plan accordingly, making sure everyone gets to see at least some of their top attractions.Be honest about personal requirements and preferences 2 .Some like getting the bed closest to the bathroom, and others prefer sitting in the airplanes window seat.To deal with this, have a conversation about everything from allergies and hygiene (卫生) to consideration of time and space. 3 When traveling with a group, you may want some alone time. 4 .Communicating your whereabouts (行踪) saves your travel companions from having to play detective in the event no one can find you.Swallow your 。
