2、nortobehere,andIcongratulateyouoncelebratingyour70thanniversary.感谢你们今天邀请我来这里。非常荣幸来到这里，并祝贺你们70周年校庆。Thestartofaschoolyearmarksanewbeginningforstudents.AndsoitsfittingthatImheretotalkaboutanewbeginningofmyown.新学年的开始，对学生们来说标志着一个新起点，所以也正适合我在这儿谈谈我自己的新起点。IwanttosayhowgratefulIamforthewarmwelcomethatmyfamil

8、cussthestepsIbelievewemustalltakeinstrengtheningtheUS-Chinarelationship.不过，今天我想讨论我相信在加强美中关系中我们所有人都必须采取的步骤。Tounderstandwherethe-Chinarelationshipisgoing,itshelpfultorememberjusthowfarithascomealready.要了解中美关系的走向，回顾一下它已经走过了多远的历程是有益的。WhenIfirstattendedcollegein1968,agatheringlikethiswouldnothavebeenposs
9、iblebecauseAmericadidnotevenhaveanambassadorinBeijing.当我在1968年刚上大学时，这样的聚会是不可能的因为美国甚至还没有驻北京的大使。Contrastthatwithtoday,whenitcouldbearguedthatthe-Chinabondisoneofthemostimportantbilateralrelationshipsintheworld.与之相比，可以说，今天的美中纽带是世界上最重要的双边关系之一。For40years,ourtwocountrieshavebeenincreasingourcooperationand
10、interconnectednessforaverysimplereason:40年来，我们两国一直在增强我们的合作和相互联系，原因很简单：Itisinourmutualinterest.这是我们的共同利益。MillionsofjobsaresustainedinChinaandtheUnitedStatesbythetradewedowithoneanother.AmericanconsumersbenefitfromthegoodsmadeinChinaanddailytheChinesepeoplerelyonhighqualityproductsandservices.And,asou
11、rcompaniesmakeinvestmentsineachotherscountries,wearecreatingjobsforourpeoples.我们彼此的贸易支撑着中国和美国数百万份工作。美国消费者受益于中国制造的商品，而中国人民每天都依赖于美国高质量的产品和服务。而且，当我们在对方国家投资的时候，我们为我们的人民创造工作机会。Everyyear,thecomprehensiveStrategicandEconomicDialoguebringstogetherpolicymakersfromacrossbothgovernmentstodiscusstopicsrangingfr
12、ombreakingdowntradebarrierstoeconomiccooperationtocollaboratingonpressingregionalandglobalissues.每年，全面的“战略与经济对话”将两国政府各部门的决策者汇聚到一起，商讨从打破贸易壁垒、到经济合作、到就紧迫的区域和全球事务展开协作等一系列问题。Tomeetthechallengeofglobalclimatechange,theandChinacanbuildonalegacyofover30yearsofcooperationonScienceandTechnologyissues.为了应对全球气候
13、变化的挑战，美国和中国可以继续发展我们在科技领域30多年的合作传统。Similarly,theUnitedStatesandChinashareaninterestinmaintainingpeaceandprosperityaroundtheworld.同样，美国和中国在维护世界各地和平与繁荣上有着共同利益。OurdefensetiesextendbacktoWorldWarII,whenoursoldiersfoughtandsacrificedtogether.我们的防务关系可以追溯到第二次世界大战，我们的军人那时曾一起作战牺牲。Today,ourdefenseinteractionst
14、akeplaceatthemostseniorlevels,withthePLAChiefoftheGeneralStaffandtheChairmanoftheJointChiefsofStaffworkingtoimprovelinesofcommunicationandstrengthenthe-Chinamilitarytomilitaryrelationship.今天，我们有最高层的防务互动，人民解放军总参谋长和美国参谋长联席会议主席在努力改善沟通渠道，加强美中军方对军方关系。Perhapsourgreatestsecuritychallengeistheexistentialthr
15、eatposedbytheproliferationofnuclearweaponsandmaterials,inparticularfromNorthKoreasnuclearandmissileprograms.也许我们最大的安全挑战是核武器和核材料扩散所构成的生存威胁，特别是北韩的核计划和导弹计划。ChinahasbeenavitalpartneraschairoftheSix-PartyTalks,withauniquerolebecauseofitshistoricrelationshipwith,andinfluenceon,NorthKorea.TheUnitedStatesandChinasharethecommongoalsofpeaceandprosperityontheKoreanPeninsulaandNorthKoreascompleteandverifiabledenuclearizationinapeacefulmanner.中国作为六方会谈的主席一直是重要的合作伙伴，并因之与北韩的历史关系和对其的影响力而发挥着独特作用。朝鲜半岛的和平与繁荣以及北韩以和平方式实现全面和可核查的无核化是美国和中国的共同目标。Ourcountri
