3、tedStates,and,mostrecently,CharlieSimpsonhelpedtoraise120,000poundsforHaitionhislittlebike.So,asyoucanseeevidencedbysuchexamples,agehasabsolutelynothingtodowithit.Thetraitsthewordchildishaddressesareseensoofteninadultsthatweshouldabolishthisage-discriminatorywordwhenitcomestocriticizingbehaviorassoc
4、iatedwithirresponsibilityandirrationalthinking.(Applause)Thankyou.Thenagain,whostosaythatcertaintypesofirrationalthinkingarentexactlywhattheworldneeds?Maybeyouvehadgrandplansbefore,butstoppedyourself,thinking:Thatsimpossibleorthatcoststoomuchorthatwontbenefitme.Forbetterorworse,wekidsarenthamperedas
5、muchwhenitcomestothinkingaboutreasonswhynottodothings.Kidscanbefullofinspiringaspirationsandhopefulthinking,likemywishthatnoonewenthungryorthateverythingwerefreekindofutopia.Howmanyofyoustilldreamlikethatandbelieveinthepossibilities?Sometimesaknowledgeofhistoryandthepastfailuresofutopianidealscanbea
6、burdenbecauseyouknowthatifeverythingwerefree,thatthefoodstockswouldbecomedepleted,andscarceandleadtochaos.Ontheotherhand,wekidsstilldreamaboutperfection.Andthatsagoodthingbecauseinordertomakeanythingareality,youhavetodreamaboutitfirst.Inmanyways,ouraudacitytoimaginehelpspushtheboundariesofpossibilit
7、y.Forinstance,theMuseumofGlassinTacoma,Washington,myhomestate-yoo-hooWashington-(Applause)hasaprogramcalledKidsDesignGlass,andkidsdrawtheirownideasforglassart.Now,theresidentartistsaidtheygotsomeoftheirbestideasthroughtheprogrambecausekidsdontthinkaboutthelimitationsofhowharditcanbetoblowglassintoce
8、rtainshapes.Theyjustthinkofgoodideas.Now,whenyouthinkofglass,youmightthinkofcolorfulChihulydesignsormaybeItalianvases,butkidschallengeglassartiststogobeyondthatintotherealmofbroken-heartedsnakesandbaconboys,whoyoucanseehasmeatvision.(Laughter)Now,ourinherentwisdomdoesnthavetobeinsidersknowledge.Kids
9、alreadydoalotoflearningfromadults,andwehavealottoshare.Ithinkthatadultsshouldstartlearningfromkids.Now,Idomostofmyspeakinginfrontofaneducationcrowd,teachersandstudents,andIlikethisanalogy.Itshouldntjustbeateacherattheheadoftheclassroomtellingstudentsdothis,dothat.Thestudentsshouldteachtheirteachers.

12、thoughadultsmaynotbequiteattheleveloftotalitarianregimes,kidshaveno,orverylittle,sayinmakingtherules,whenreallytheattitudeshouldbereciprocal,meaningthattheadultpopulationshouldlearnandtakeintoaccountthewishesoftheyoungerpopulation.Now,whatsevenworsethanrestrictionisthatadultsoftenunderestimatekidsab
13、ilities.Welovechallenges,butwhenexpectationsarelow,trustme,wewillsinktothem.Myownparentshadanythingbutlowexpectationsformeandmysister.Okay,sotheydidnttellustobecomedoctorsorlawyersoranythinglikethat,butmydaddidreadtousaboutAristotleandpioneergermfighterswhenlotsofotherkidswerehearingTheWheelsontheBu
