3、lthoughtherearenosimplesolutions，recentevidencesuggestswearemovingintherightdirection.Accordingtothelatestdata，violentcrimebyyoungpeoplehasbeencutnearlyinhalfsince1993；schoolyarddeathshavedroppeddramatically.Thesearebothimportantdeclinesthatreflectthelowestnationalcrimeratein25years.But，still，wehave
4、moretodo.Atmydirection，theWhiteHouseCouncilonYouthViolencehasdevelopedanewwebsiteandtoll-freeinformationlinetohelpparentsandeducatorsgetthefactstheyneedtoreduceyouthviolence.ThewebsiteaddressisAndthetoll-freenumberis1-866-SAFE-YOUTH.Thats，and1-866-SAFE-YOUTH.Imalsopleasedtoreleaseanotherimportantres
5、ourceaguideforparentsoncommunicatingbetterwithteenagers.ItincorporatesthelatestresearchaswellasthebestideasfromtheWhiteHouseConferenceonTeenagers，whichHillaryandIsponsoredlastyear.Welldistributethispublicationnationwidethroughthewebsite，thetoll-freelineandwiththeassistanceofschoolprincipals，schoolnu

8、ers.Wevesecuredfundingformorethan100，000newpoliceofficersonthebeat.WecreatedtheCOPSinSchoolsprogramtohelplocallawenforcementhirepoliceofficerstoworkinourschools.Weestablishedafter-schoolandsummerschoolprogramsthatarehelpingnowmillionchildrenayearstayoutoftroubleandsucceedintheclassroom，andwevelaunch
9、edanationalprogramtofosterlocalpartnershipsthatmakeourschoolssafer，identifychildrenatrisk，andgetthemthehelptheyneed.Workingcloselywiththeprivatesectorandcommunitygroups，wealsoexpandedtheGEAR-UPinitiativetogiveyoungpeoplementorsandencouragementtoseekacollegeeducation.Andnow，arecordnumberofyoungpeople
10、aregoingontocollege.Weneedtobuildonthisremarkablesuccess.HereinWashington，Congressshouldnowmoveswiftlytoclosethegunshowloopholeandrequirebackgroundchecksforallgunbuyers.Intheprivatesector，HollywoodshouldownuptoitsresponsibilitiesandstopmarketingviolencetoAmericasyoungpeople.Thereisnothingmorepreciou
