5、. 103XFeature Articles p.2 Welcome!By Michele PierroThe Office of School Safety and Positive Behavior Supports is off to a bustling start this fall. Audrey Wile is heading up the grant as Project Director, and has lined up a list of Whos Who in National Consultants to provide trainings and PD to our

6、 PBIS schools this year. Audrey, who was our SWIS Facilitator last year, has handed the SWIS baton over to Jenny Figaro. We are so fortunate to have the wisdom and expertise of seasoned administrators who have joined our PBIS team (see p.3, “Welcome Back!”). They will be providing field based suppor

7、t to our coaches, and will act as liaisons to administrators in the regions, and in our D75 schools. One of them is even taking on a coaching role! Best wishes to Raquel Fox who has left her role as a PBIS Coach to pursue other interests (see p.3, “Farewell”).Three very exciting new supports being o

8、ffered through this office are: 1.) An innovative web based support program named “Helpful Henry” (see p. 6). This was the brainchild of our superintendent Bonnie Brown who brought together the creative minds of Jonathan Finkelstein from Learning Times, and Dr. Robert March, from Effective Education

9、al Practices. 2.) Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training (TCI) which helps reduce crisis situations, builds relationships with students, and de-escalates behaviors. 3.) Our brand new newsletter, which offers a guide to resources and information. I wish you a happy and successful school year filled

10、 with positive interactions and results in your work!The World of PBISBy Audrey WileWelcome to an exciting year in the world of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. We have 44 schools participating in the Grant. Of these schools, 10 are new to PBIS (Cohort 5) and will be beginning Universal

11、 Training on November 20, 2006 with Lori Newcomer, a national consultant. The other 34 schools will continue with Targeted Training, also with Lori Newcomer, on November 21 and 22. In addition, the Office of Special Education Initiatives is sponsoring 16 additional new PBIS schools in Regions 4 and

12、6. These schools will also begin Universal Training with the other Cohort 5 schools in November. We also have many Self Initiated Schools (SIS)that look to our Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for support.Our new Internal Coaches had their first training with Riva Korashan on “Running Effective Tea

13、m Meetings“. We also discussed establishing teams, expectations, creating a matrix across settings, cool tools lessons, incentives, and kick-offs. We will be having an Internal Coach Networking Meeting combined with a Family Representative Recognition Day on December 5, 2006. This will be sponsored

14、by Families Together NYS to recognize and encourage School, Family, Community Partnerships.Our PBIS Advisory Board had its first meeting on September 29, 2006. It was a huge success. It was attended by DOE personnel and many community partners. Schools shared successes. We will be having meetings on

15、 November 15, January 19, March 16, and May 30.On October 12-13, 2006 a PBIS conference was held in Rosemont, Illinois on Secondary and Tertiary Interventions, for those students who have more significant behavior support needs. Those cohort 3/4 schools who have a solid foundation in school-wide positive behavior supports will begin implementing secondary and tertiary interventions this year. We have many more exciting trainings and conferences planned for this year, which I will discuss in future i
