3、roduction 1.1 The Census and Statistics Department compi1es employment and vacancy statistics in major sectors of the enomy at quarter1y intervals. Such data are mpi1ed m也n1y 台om data collected via the Quarter1y Survey of Employment and Vacancies (SEV) and the Quarterly Employment Survey of Construc
4、ton Sites (Site Survey). 官le survey 自ldingS pro泊de useful indication of the trend of labour demand in the local economy. 1.2 Starting from June 1995， a Supplemen旭可 Survey of Job Vacancies (SSJV) is conducted in parallel wi曲 曲e SEV and the Site Survey. The main objective of the SSJV is to compile由.ti
5、stics on detailed characteristics of job vacancies， notably statstics on broad levels of occupation and skiil of job vacancies. bese additional 鈍atistics give more insig11t into the types of workers (s呵， managerial Itechnical/clerical/cra丘sman/operative levels) which are in shortage of supply in ind
6、ividual industries， 出us facilitating a comprehensive analysis and monitoring of the labour market in such areas 扭曲e matching of vacancies against unemployed and the planning of employee retraining prograrnm es. 1.3 This article describes the gener.叫 survey methodology of the SSJV and presents the st
7、atistics on job vacancies for the five quarters from June 1995 to June 1996. Vacancies in 也e Ci前1 Service 缸e excluded. 2. Survey coverage 2.1 The SSJV is conducted in the form of a follow-up enquiry to也e SEV and出e Site Survey， in 也e sense that all the establishments (including construction sites) of
8、 the SEV and the Site Survey reported to have vacancies in a reference quarter wilI be fully enumerated in the SSJV in由at qu缸ter. Hence， all the econornic activities covered by the SEV and the Site Survey are also covered by the SSJV. Specifically， the SSJV covers the following actlV1tles: FA2 1. 緒言

11、調查的範 團與上述兩 項統計調查所包 括的所有經濟活 動相同 ，其中包括: 香港統 計月刊 一九 九六年十一月(a) Mining and Quarrying; (b) Manufacturing ; (c) Electricity and Gas; (d) Construction (covering manual workers at construction sites only); (e) Wholesale， Retail and ImportJExport Trades， Restaurants and Hotels; (f) Transport， Storage and Comm
12、unications; (g) Financing， Insurance， Real Estate and Business Services; and (h) Communi時， Social and Personal Services. 2.2 Some industry sectors / industries are exc1 uded企om 也e survey for operational re品ons. Major ornissions include: (a) Agriculture and Fishing sector; (b) Construction sec的r (exc
13、ept for manual workers at construction sites); (c) Hawkers and retail pitches (。由er than market stalls) in the Wholesale， Retail and ImportJExport Trades， Restaurants and Hotels sector; (d) Ta也s， public light buses， goods vehicles， barges， lighters and stevedoring services in the Transport， Storagc
14、and Communications sector; 組d (e) Veterinary services， religious organizations， authors and other independent artists， domestic helpers， and rniscellaneous recreational and personal services in the Communi吟， Social and Personal Services sector. 2.3 Owing to the incomplete verage of some industry sec
15、tors as mentioned above， the vacancy figures for these sectors and for the “all industry sectors“ 血也e survey results are not meant to represent the overall situation in respect of these sectors and the entire labour market respectively. Caution should be taken accordingly in interpreting 也.e respect
16、ive figures. 3. Survey method 3.1 Sample Design - Since SSN is a follow-up enquiry to也e SEV and the Site Survey ， the s缸nple design b部 ically follows 由前adopted in t每ese two surveys.
