、My Review of One Flew over the Cuckoos NestOne Flew over the Cuckoos Nest is one of the representatives of the 70s American political films. The film is an adaptation of the 1962 novel One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest by Ken Kesey. The movie was the second to win all five major Academy Awards since It

、 Happened One Night in 1934, an accomplishment not repeated until 1991 by The Silence of the Lambs . One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest is frequently called one of the greatest films in the history of American cinema. One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest is labeled as a political movie, which is mainly becaus

、e of its director, Milo Forman, who ran away to America from Czechoslovakia at the end of the 60s in the 20th century. Hollywood used this to make a great fuss and try to allude Soviet Union and some other country. But, actually, the movie reveals the dirty linens of the American society itself. The

、 mental hospital described in the movie is just an epitome of American society, which is sick and depressive. The movie also shows us the evil of the so-called civilized capitalist society-the suppression of humanity and the restraint of freedom. The film has many attractive features, among which th

、e most peculiar one is its use of color. I think the director is was sensible on the selection of the color. There are only two basic colors used in the movie-white and black. The monotonous and inhuman environment in the mental hospital is clearly showed through these simple colors. Also, those whi

、te properties, such as white clothes and white walls, show the tediousness and oppression in the mental hospital. There are several women roles in the movie, such as Nurse Ratched, Mrs. Bibbit, and Vera Harding. Nurse Ratched, whose power is expressed in bluntly sexual terms despite her attempts to

、deny her sexuality, maintains her position as the sole voice of authority on the ward by suppressing the patients laughter. Mrs. Bibbit gains her power by preventing Billy, her son, from becoming a functioning adult, and it is because of this relationship that Billy eventually commits suicide. Vera

、Harding uses her husbands insecurities about his homosexuality as well as her own assets in order to manipulate and belittle him. In the movie, the women are the power figures and are able to significantly manipulate the patients on the ward, as is shown by the characters of Nurse Ratched, Mrs. Bibb

、it, and Vera Harding. And such roles are very different from the general view of women in the 1960s. Until modern times, society advocated that a mans role was at work, while a woman was required to stay home and assume the role of the main caregiver. Men were given power and authority, and women, c

、onversely, were expected to be meek and subservient. While these women roles in the movie extended beyond the family and out into society, and materialized in areas such as education, politics, and occupations. So we can see that these women roles are the power figures and are able to significantly m

The characters of Nurse Ratched, Mrs. Bibbit, and Vera Harding are representative of the matriachy that reigns in the mental ward. On

、a larger scale, these women exemplify the notion that women are to blame for the ills of soicety. Kesey does introduce the characters of Cand Starr, a prostitute and friend of McMurphy, and the girl in the cotton mill, both of whom stand in stark contrast to the matrons of the hospital. He also has

、McMurphy mention that ball-cutters can be any age or gender. These parts of the novel show hints of gender equality that the rest of the book appears to ignore. Nonetheless, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest clearly illustrates a reversal in stereotypical gender roles, and serves as a constant reminder

、 of the attitude biases still present in modern society. Next, Id like to talk something about the leading male roleMcMurphy. McMurphy has no insights into the nature of mental illness, which is his blessing. Hes an extroverted, life-loving force of nature who sees his fellow patients as teammates,

In many of the best scenes in the film, this defiance takes the shape of spontaneous and even innocent little rebellions: During exercise period, the patients mill around aimlessly on a basketball court until McMurphy hilariously tries to get a game going. He also makes bets and outrageous dares, and does some rudimentary political organizing. He needs the votes of ten patie
