Teaching Material Analysis This selected part is taken from module 4, SEFC Book 1, Fine Arts Western, Chinese and Pop Arts. The first four paragraphs of the reading material introduce four famous artists, su

2、ch as their nationality, painting style, reputation and contribution. After reading the first four paragraphs, students are able to know more detailed information of the four masters. In the last two paragraphs, two students give their opinions on arts. By reading them, students could know how to sh

3、ow likes and dislikes in various ways. What is more, students can use them both in their speaking and writing. II. Teaching Objectives 1. Language Objectives Enable students to master some useful words and expressions such as: painter, watercolor, art gallery, get tired of, be fond of 2. Ability Obj

4、ectives (1) To enable students to master some reading skills: skimming, scanning and summarizing. (2) To enable students to give opinions on likes and dislikes. 3. Moral Objectives To develop students interest in arts. III. Important Points 1. To train the students reading skills: skimming, scanning

5、 and summarizing. 2. To make the students know how to give opinions on likes and dislikes. IV. Difficult Points 1. To enable students to comprehend the text and find out the useful information. 2. To help students use the expressions in actual practice. V. Learning Methods It s important to teach st

6、udents “ How to learn” not “what to learn ”. So, teachers must help students build up their own ways to study.We cannot be restricted by some factors, but should try to motivate students and make the class become more active and funny. It is also important for the students to communicate with their

7、classmates actively, share their opinions with each other and discuss how to solve problems. VI. Teachi

8、ng Methods 1. The main teaching methods include: scanning, skimming and summarizing; task-based method; group work; guided-discovery method; inductive method; discussion; transition device. These different methods could improve their skills of reading. Definitely, PWP MODEL is used. 2. Teaching Aids

9、: textbook, pictures. VII. Teaching Procedures Step I Lead-in (3mins) After greeting my students, I will show a picture of Mona Lisa and ask students a series of questions. For example, who is this woman, who paints it, what does he do, etc. Through these questions, we can focus students attention o

10、n arts and lead them to pre-reading activities. Step II Pre-reading (10mins) In this step, students are encouraged to speak out more words related to arts to realize brainstorming, laying a foundation for the study of this passage, or for the very activity of reading. After it, ask students to choos

11、e one picture from Page 32 and describe what is in the picture with their partner. Then invite two to three groups to show their description. After this step, we will go to the reading part of this period. Step III While-reading (24mins) This step will be carried out in several sub-steps. First is s

12、kimming. Simply ask students to read through the passage quickly so as to know how the passage moves on, or simply speaking, how many parts this passage can be divided into. More than that, students should speak out the reasons for this division. In this way, students can be more clear how the autho

13、r develops his article. This step aims to enhance students skimming skill and the ability to summarize. Secondly, match the four paintings with Paragraph A, B, C, D and find out which two pictures are mentioned in paragraph E and F. By this means, scanning skill is trained. Then the teaching procedu

14、re will move to careful reading. In careful reading, firstly, ask students to make a prediction and then read paragraph A to D carefully ,simply focusing on the nation, reputation and painting style of the painters. Through asking and answering, students and the teacher work together to finish the t

Secondly, ask students to read Paragraph E and F, finding out the expressions used to show opinions. Thirdl

This step is designed to fulfill the understanding of the passage in the process of reading. Meanwhile, it is also to enable students to learn to give opinions on their likes and dislikes.
