1、1,汉语范畴词的省译与英文抽象名词汉译的范畴化,2,1. 汉语范畴词的省译,范畴词（category words)指用来表示行为、现象、属性等概念所属范畴的词，是汉语常用的特指手段。这些范畴词一般放在动词或形容词的后面，有些也放在名词后面。有时前面有助词“的”，有时没有。其中最常用的有“行为”、“态度”、“方面”、“方式”、“局面”、“涵义”、“情景”、“心情”、“性”（如“科学性”、“度”（如“知名度”）等。一般情况下，他们在句中没有实际意义，但十分有用；用的恰当，可以使句子流畅。例如：,3,1. 汉语范畴词的省译,1.本次会议讨论的重点是世界经济发展状况。 2.失业问题比通胀问题更为严重，

3、一些表示名词的后缀变成名词，就可以充当相应的句子成分。英语中名词后缀-tion，-ment，-al等的英文解释就是the act，state or result，or condition，这说明这些后缀本身就包含了与汉语的“行为”、“现象”、“做法”、“状态”类似的意思. 夹在英语形容词后面的名词后缀-ness和-ity等的英文解释则为quality，condition or degree，这说明这些后缀本身包含了与汉语的“程度”、 “状态”类似的意思。 所以，上述汉语的范畴词在翻译中可以省译，只要将前面与其搭配的动词或形容词翻译成名词即可。,5,1. 汉语范畴词的省译,1.本次会议讨论的重点

13、革。 We must press ahead with the reform in housing.,18,1. 汉语范畴词的省译,8.收入分配关系还要理顺。 The distribution of income needs to be straightened out. 9.妥善处理改革、发展、稳定的关系。 We have to balance reform, development and stability.,19,2. 英语抽象名词汉译的范畴化,英语的名词按他们的逻辑意义，可分为具体名词和抽象名词。抽象名词是指标示动作、状态、品质、情感等抽象概念的名词。 现代英语里，抽象名词使用非常广
14、泛，这是因为英语中名词使用活跃，虽为抽象名词，但他们在行文中产生的确是具体含义。因此，翻译抽象名词时不可简单照搬词典上的释义，否则，译文就很难做到准确、通顺。一旦具体化，就可以指人或事的某种品质、特点、状态，或是具有这种品质的人或事。翻译这类抽象名词往往需要在与抽象名词相对应的汉语后面加上一个名词或译成汉语的定语，即“的”字结构后再译成抽象名词。 英语的抽象名词大都是动词或形容词通过词形变化产生的，汉语没有。所以汉语里的“范畴词”相当于英语抽象名词的后缀。,20,2. 英语抽象名词汉译的范畴化,arrogance自满情绪 madness疯狂行为（举动） patriotism爱国热情 ruden
