AbstractChinese poetry is the essence of language and crystallization of Chinese traditional culture. With Chinas rising internat
7、ional status, spreading Chinese culture, especially classical Chinese poems, becomes particularly important in a globalizing world. It carries a big weight in spreading classical Chinese culture. However, it is hard to understand Chinese poems from the English version due to different abundant cultu
8、ral backgrounds, historical and many others elements. This thesis focuses on the losses of original cultural, and tries to find out translation strategy of poetry, categories of cultural losses and their compensation for these losses. Many instances adopted in this paper are selected from Xu Yuancho
9、ngs translations, the researcher tries to find out better translation strategy to make the classical Chinese poems translation become more faithful and smooth, convey cultural connotations of poems in the most effective way and show the beauty of classical Chinese poems. 10、tural losses; classical Chinese poems; translation strategies;compensation strategies摘 要古诗词是中国传统文化的精髓，是民族文化的结晶。随着中国国际地位的提高，传播中国文化在全球化进程中变得尤为重要，而古诗词在传播中国文化、促进文化交流中举足轻重。然而，因不同的文化背景，历史及其他许多因素的影响，中国古典诗词的英译过程是及其困难的。本篇论文从源文化遗失的角度去研究中国古诗词的翻译策略，找出源文化遗失类型和补偿策略。其中多以许渊冲的来研究古诗词的翻译策略，使诗词翻译更加忠实通顺，能够在最大程度上传达出诗歌的文化
