Design Terms Glossary - A Definitions for Abacus, Acanthus Leaves, Abutment, Acid, Achromatic

3、Color Scheme, Acoustic Tile, Acroteria, Acetate and AccessAbacus: 【建】(圆柱顶部的)顶板, 冠板The top part of any capital. The square slab placed on top of the capital to bear the beam. It often has mouldings and these are an indicator of the date that its design is derived from.English: Line art drawing of an

4、abacus, the flat slab forming the uppermost member or division of the capital of a column above the bell.Abutment: 桥基An intersection between a roof and a wall. The solid mass of a pier or wall from which an arch springs.Acanthus Leaves: 莨苕叶饰The leaves of the Acanthus spinosus, a thick scalloped leaf

It has been used since classical times, the most recognisable stylised form on the top of columns, also used as architectural moldings and as a decorative form on furniture.Access: 筏门板Usually a removable panel in a conduit duct or channel.Acid: 酸Opposite to alkali, which neutralize and are neutral

6、ized by alkalis. Examples of household acids are vinegar and lemon juice.Acetate: 醋酸纤维素(textiles) Acetate is made from wood pulp. It has a low strength when wet, and is not very absorbent. Moths or mildew does not affect it. It drapes well, but avoid wringing drip dry only and use a cool iron. A com

7、mon substitute for various natural fibres, acetate is versatile and inexpensive. It is used in making satins and brocades. Triacetate is stronger and more durable. It washes well and retains pressing. It is non-absorbent and commonly used in mixtures and blends well with natural and other man made f

Adirondack Furniture: A rustic furniture made in North America in the mid 1800s from roughly hewn timber and bent branches and logs.Adobe: 灰质粘土, 砖坯Sunbaked bricks or blocks reinforced with straw. 12、ition.Aedicule: the architectural frame of an opening consisting of the two columns supporting the entablature and pediment.
