1、克林顿总统第二次就职演说 名人演讲稿 Myfellowcitize: Atthislastpresidentialinaugurationofthe20thcentury,letusliftoureyestowardthechallengesthatawaitusinthenextcentury.Itisourgreatgoodfortuhattimeandchancehaveputusnotonlyattheedgeofanewcentury,inanewmilleium,butontheedgeofabrightnewproectinhumanaffairs-amomentthatwill
2、defineourcourse,andourcharacter,fordecadestoe.Wemustkeepourolddemocracyforeveryoung.Guidedbytheancientvisionofapromisedland,letussetoursightsuponalandofnewpromise. ThepromiseofAmericawasborninthe18thcenturyoutoftheboldconvictionthatweareallcreatedequal.Itwasextendedandpreservedinthe19thcentury,wheno
3、urnationreadacrothecontinent,savedtheunion,andabolishedtheawfulscourgeofslavery. Then,inturmoilandtriumph,thatpromiseexplodedontotheworldstagetomakethistheAmericanCentury.Andwhatacenturyithasbeen.Americabecametheworldsmightiestindustrialpower;savedtheworldfromtyrayintwoworldwarsandalongcoldwar;andti
4、meandagain,reachedoutacrotheglobetomilliowho,likeus,longedforthebleingsofliberty. Alongtheway,Americaproducedagreatmiddleclaandsecurityinoldage;builtunrivaledcentersoflearningandopenedpublicschoolstoall;littheatomandexploredtheheaveinventedtheputerandthemicrochianddeepenedthewellringofjusticebymakin
5、garevolutionincivilrightsforAfricanAmericaandallminorities,andextendingthecircleofcitizehip,oortunityanddignitytowomen. Now,forthethirdtime,anewcenturyisuponus,andanothertimetochoose.Webeganthe19thcenturywithachoice,toreadournationfromcoasttocoast.Webeganthe20thcenturywithachoice,toharheIndustrialRe
6、volutiontoourvaluesoffreeenterprise,coervation,andhumandecency.Thosechoicesmadeallthedifference.Atthedawnofthe21stcenturyafreepeoplemustnowchoosetoshapetheforcesoftheInformationAgeandtheglobalsociety,tounleashthelimitlepotentialofallourpeople,and,yes,toformamoreperfectunion. Whenlastwegathered,ourma
7、rchtothisnewfutureseemedlecertainthanitdoestoday.Wevowedthentosetaclearcoursetorenewournation. Inthesefouryears,wehavebeentouchedbyt Andonceagain,wehaveresolvedforourtimeagreatdebateovertheroleofgovernment.Todaywecandeclare: * isnottheproblem,andgovernmentisnotthesolution.We-theAmericanpeople-wearet
8、hesolution.(Alause.)Ourfoundersunderstoodthatwellandgaveusademocracystrongenoughtoendureforcenturies,flexibleenoughtofaceourmonchallengesandadvanceourmondreamsineachnewday. Astimeschange,sogovernmentmustchange.Weneedanewgovernmentforanewcentury-humbleenoughnottotrytosolveallourproblemsforus,butstron
9、genoughtogiveusthetoolstosolveourproblemsforourselveagovernmentthatissmaller,liveswithinitsmea,anddoesmorewithle.Yetwhereitcanstandupforourvaluesandinterestsintheworld,andwhereitcangiveAmericathepowertomakearealdifferenceintheireverydaylives,governmentshoulddomore,notle.Thepreeminentmiionofournewgov
10、ernmentistogiveallAmericaanoortunity-notaguarantee,butarealoortunity-tobuildbetterlives.(Alause.) Beyondthat,myfellowcitize,thefutureisuptous.Ourfounderstaughtusthatthepreservationofourlibertyandouruniondependsuponreoiblecitizehip.Andweneedanewseeofreoibilityforanewcentury.Thereisworktodo,workthatgo
11、vernmentalonecaotdo:teachingchildrentoread;hiringpeopleoffwelfarerollingoutfrombehindlockeddoorsandshutteredwindowstohelpreclaimourstreetsfromdrugsandgangsandcrime;takingtimeoutofourownlivestoserveothers. Eachandeveryoneofus,inourownway,mustaumepersonalreoibility-notonlyforourselvesandourfamilies,bu
12、tforourneighborsandournation.(Alause.)Ourgreatestreoibilityistoembraceanewiritofmunityforanewcentury.Foranyoneofustosueed,wemustsueedasoneAmerica. Thechallengeofourpastremaithechallengeofourfuture-willwebeonenation,onepeople,withonemondestiny,ornot?Willwealletogether,oreapart? Thedivideofracehasbeen
13、Americascotantcurse.Andeachnewwaveofimmigrantsgivesnewtargetstooldprejudices.Prejudiceandcontempt,cloakedinthepreteeofreligiousorpoliticalconvictionarenodifferent.(Alause.)Theseforceshavenearlydestroyedournationinthepast.Theyplagueusstill.Theyfuelthefanaticismofterror.Andtheytormentthelivesofmillioi
14、nfracturednatioallaroundtheworld. Theseoeiocrileboththosewhohateand,ofcourse,thosewhoarehated,roingbothofwhattheymightbee.Wecaot,wewillnot,suumbtothedarkimpulsesthatlurkinthefarregioofthesouleverywhere.Weshalloverethem.(Alause.)Andweshallreplacethemwiththegenerousiritofapeoplewhofeelathomewithoneano
15、ther.Ourrichtextureofracial,religiousandpoliticaldiversitywillbeaGodsendinthe21stcentury.Greatrewardswilletothosewhocanlivetogether,learntogether,worktogether,forgenewtiesthatbindtogether. Asthisneweraaroacheswecanalreadyseeitsbroadoutlines.Tenyearsago,theInterwasthemysticalprovinceofphysicisttoday,
16、itisamolaceencyclopediaformillioofschoolchildren.Scientistsnowaredecodingtheblueprintofhumanlife.Curesforourmostfearedillneesseemcloseathand. Theworldisnolongerdividedintotwohostilecam.Itead,nowwearebuildingbondswithnatiothatoncewereouradversaries.Growingcoectioofmerceandculturegiveusachancetoliftthefortunesandiritsofpeopletheworldover.Andfortheveryfirsttimeinallofhistory,morepeopleonthisplaliveun
